Wannabee -> Possible to slow down youtube vids??? (Dec. 11 2008 14:31:26)

I am no computer whizz, as you may have guessed. I read on one forum or another that people were able to slow down audio with their media players.

I can do that for some things, but I was wondering if there is a way to slow down youtube videos that doesn't involve a lot of detailed computer/program
skills.

thanks in advance.

You can use audacity to record the youtube audio.
If you want a detailed explanation just pm me.
I will help you to do it.

Once you are in audacity, you can change pitch and speed indepentently.

Yes Audacity is a very useful - and free - program.

Or you can use
http://www.mediaconverter.org/
to save the video as wmv, then you can slow it down when you watch it in Windows Media Player.

This is the same program that at_leo_87 is talking about below. You can use it on its own or as a Firefox 'extension'. Either way, you have to be online.

If you use mozilla firefox, you can download an add-on called "media converter." You can download any youtube video as a windows media video or just the audio file as an mp3. from there, you can then play it in windows media player and adjust the speed with the play speed settings.

As a matter of fact, I do use Mozilla firefox...thanks for that information.

I also tried using audacity, but I can't get it to work properly on this computer, and I gave up trying.

I had used it on other computers no problem, so it's something to do with this particular computer.

but I'll try the firefox thingy, that sounds cool.

Thanks again.

Just tried the audacity route again and suddenly it seems to be working. Hmmm.

My computer just got some updates recently, maybe that has something to do with it.....or I'm just going nutz!

Anway, thanks a bunch.

If you download the flv file from youtube you can watch the video in Media Player Classic, which does allow you to change the play rate.

It's not as fine-tunable as, say Guitar Rig, or some other program that would allow you to change it to any tempo you want. It's more like the FFW and RW on your DVD player, but it will still play audio.

I don't know if that's any use to you.

K-Lite Codec Pack comes with Media Player Classic and also includes enough codecs that it will be a very rare occurrence to find a video file it doesn't know how to play. And did I mention that it's FREE!!!!
