hey, I may be wrong but it seems to me that modern players don't seem to record tientos that much. If I'm right, why is that?

maybe there are other palos that don't get much attention these days?

if so why? Is it just like anything else... things drop in and out of favour?

Stu

U are right..Tientos hasent been recorded on a solo guitar album much lately

I dont know for the same reason u play one palo more then other..personal preference I guess..or they need to allow room for the 4 bulerias [:D]

I have a theory...but dont quote me..i am just saying how i would think and i pick the palos i focus on..

Depends on what is beeing danced the most ...before they become soloists and perhaps even after most guitarists get theyr experience in dancestudios accompanying, rehersing etc.. I would imagine..they probably focus most energy on the palos that come up day to day, so they would work compose theyr falsetas and rythm around those mostly ..I am sure they play the others too but since they dont come up every day it makes sence to concetrate on the things that will actualy be heard..

eg..Buleria, Tangos, Alegrias, Solea, Solea Por Buleria, Seguirilla..etc.

Unless a personal preference theres no point composing a nice Tientos that will be heard once in 3 years while my SOlea por Buleria in clases everyday sucks cause i spent most of my time on a Tientos noone heard yet [:D]

I guess whatever is beeing danced and sang the most affects the stuff guitarists focus on ( with certain exceptions ofcourse..just speaking in general)

So when you get a chance to record i am sure u prefer to record something u have fine tuned and spent alot of time composing and focusing your energy on ..

Antoher thing I would consider is the variety of the keys and compas..

5 of the most popular recorded palos that 3 out of 5 guitarists would record are allready in the same key...and if u ad Tientos it makes it 6 ..might play a small role in the decision.....
2 Bulerias, 1 Tangos, 1 Solea Por Buleria, 1 Seguirilla...( they are all the same tone and basic chords..)

I would wanna split em up with some variety so that one track dosent have the same tone as the other...I would add stuff like Minera, Alegrias, Rodena, Solea, Colombiana..

So many palos out there..u cant do it all...

its like wanting to showcase your best also some of them are very very similar to other of the popular palos..only difference is the singing

theres plenty of stuff not beeing recorded that much anymore in solo guitar..it would been eazyer to tell you the stuff that is beeing recorded ..lol

Cantinas, Zapateado, Tangos De Malaga ( i dont think thats ever been recorded!!) Zorongo,Alboreá, Bambera, Campanilleros,Caña, Canastera, Caracoles, Cartageneras, Farruca, Garrotin, Jabera, Livianas, Malagueña, Peteneras, Mirabrás, Nana, Romance, Romeros, Rosas, Serrana, Sevillana and Zambra ( not as much lately)

yeah, i'd like to know that too....

here's a "modern" player playing tientos, shame that i don't think he ever recorded it, it's certainly not on any album of his i've got (even the long deleted completely solo unaccompanied one that i've only got on a slightly stretched tape and would love to have on cd):
