El Craic -> Zambombas (Nov. 17 2008 2:30:24)

Tell me about them...'specially in Jerez. I've never seen them (apart from on youtube)

Or maybe there is similar in Cadiz (hello Sean see u pushing a few buttons with that Pitingo stuff lol)

I do have a few days in particular (depending on Aer Lingus and their threatened strikes [:@]) from 17-20 Dec when its just me and my partner but otherwise there may be a few flamenco virgins. We're staying on the coast near Conil for a bit of winter watersports and some decent fish.

I see Don Chacon has an event on at the right time http://www.belenjerez.net/zambomba/zambomba08.html which sounds lovely but it says invite only. Maybe they'd get overrun or maybe this one event is more for locals? Does anyone know what what the craic is with invites or has anyone any recommendations?

Thanks guys

Hola guapa

Zambombas are properly Jerezanas. They take their name from the strange drum with a stick though the middle which makes the oooummph sound. You might need enchufe to find out where and when and how to get in. Estela or Norman might be able to help.

In Cádiz, we have villancicos groups instead. The most prestigious is Toma Castaña: I produced their first record and they haven´t looked back: this year 2 nights in Teatro Falla with guests Juan Villar and Esperanza Fernandez. Of course they, and other groups, play in bars all over the city, almost every night.

Not overwarm if you intend to surf, though I imagine nothing like the coast of Donegal[:D]

Un abrazo fuerte

Sean

Thanks Sean. Here, is your mob still the one that ends in ..1501. If we end up in Cadiz I'll buzz you.

Got in touch with Estela thanks, going to try to catch up with her for a gossip with any luck. Been too long!

Sea is toasty compared with Donegal.

Hasta pronto
