[for a while I will be mostly asking questions, but will hopefully reciprocate the courtesy of your answers at some point]

Any recommendation regarding filming a video for YouTube:
1. Do digital cameras allow an external microphone input?
2. How do you manage to add that dash of reverb that emphasizes sound?
3. How do you record, leave your camera running for a few consecutive takes until you are pleased with one and then edit that segment out?

This is how I do it :

1. Dig. camera's do have a built in mic., but most of them allow an external mic.
2. I just record in a big, empty room.
3. I don't ! I just try to record in one take.

Koella, thank you for your answer. I am listening to your (practicing?) Soleares while I write this reply.
I also listened to and watched Florian’s Video. I have a lot of work to do, and probably will never catch up.
I am really impressed and enjoyed immensely your videos (do you guys have any recordings available out there?).

Back to the subject of my question, I was hoping someone would point out to a mic and eq. of some sort to mediate between camera and playing in order to monitor and clean up the sound. But I agree that your natural playing does not need any manipulation, and it is indeed awesome.

Hi :-)

Depends ..but there's a few ways to do it

if u wana add alot of effects and your video mic records at a less bitrates u can...

Have the cam running to video u

at the same time have a recording Editing program runing to capture good sound eg. Coole Edit pro or whatever prog u use..( i like cool edit pro cause the multitrack is straight foward and quic to use...well as eazy as it can get with audio)

then u can add all the effects u want the the audio track and change the audio in Video with Cubase SX (theres an option swap audio in video)...

its a litlle messing around but once u get used to it it pretty eazy..( my videocam mic only records audio at 22.000 so this is a better way of doing it for me) this allows u to have loops tracks, use whatever audio effects u want etc...(for loop tracks u wanna ware headphones so that u dont get sound spillage )

Thank you Florian, for pointing out your additional tracks on MySpace. I avidly listened to all your work. I am impressed, but at this juncture not surprised at all.

Thank you for sparing your advice on this additional question. I was trying to avoid updating my technology, and wanted to stay (in the past) with some effect box plugged into the mic. However, I think your post sounds encouraging. I will check out the Cool Edit program and see if it is feasible to manage within the limits of my decreasing learning curve.

I suppose that once you have your sound track cleaned up for the video (through Cood Edit), the same track can be played either as Video or solely as audio.
Ok there goes my Christmas’ wish.

Any solo guitar work of yours I can download into my ipod?
[of course I realize that these days one can bypass any downloading restrictions from YouTube, but my profession’s moral oath inhibits any such illegalities]

Cool edit pro is a great program...very straight foward eazy to use..comes with alot of effects allready built in...shouldnt even be expensive because it very old..but i am used to it..i have all the other software and still prefer using cool edit for recording and multytrak..just very eazy to use...and u can do alot of things with it..

that way u can add and take away whatever effects u like manually

florian, have you ever tried actually connecting the camera to cubase and recording it that way? I just upgraded to cubase 5, and your method explained here works great. Im going to experiment with doing it all in just cubase, and if it works out good, ill make a video

but if you tried this already any feedback about your experience would be helpful
