Anders Eliasson -> Curro del Conquero (Nov. 8 2008 0:18:09)

Maybe you know that you dont choose your own artist name. It something that is given to you.

Yesterday I got my first artist name: Curro del Conquero

We had a friday evening without show in the peña, but with local guys and girls on stage. I accompanied a kid who sang 3 different Fandangos de Huelva and another guy por alegrias.
It all went pretty good. No major mistakes.

So the old man who announced the players called me Curro del Conquero. Most probably because the Spanish have serious problems with my name.[:D] Well in the end they all called me Curro... So maybe I have to live with that.

Its a bit absurd though. Curro you use for Francisco and del Conquero means from el conquero, and I dont live in el Conquero, so I guess he just made it up in order to call me something he could pronounce.[:D]

Olé Curro!!!

[:)]Curro also means "elegant" ...
And maybe there's an allusion to "Que Se Ven Desde El Conquero" or else you're just the "elegant one from the Huelva mountain"

[&:] of course curro also means "duck" ...

jejejejejejeee maybe you introduce the "chuck berry duck walk" in flamenco.
of course it might be hard sitting down.

Thats the problem when you are given a "nombre artistico" by the flamencos....you are never quite sure if its an honour or an insult![;)]

Anders Eliasson -> RE: Curro del Conquero (Nov. 8 2008 5:23:03)

Maybe this with the duck is true because Donald duck is Anders And in Danish.

I still think its a stupid name he gave me.

Ohhh, you really shouldn't have told us about this... :-)

Actually, there is a possibility that it has something to do with the word "conque." I haven't actually heard anyone say that word before, but according to the RAE and "Seco" dictionaries, it's colloquial and means two different things: (1) a condition under which something might be done or (2) the essence of a question. Maybe the old man sees you as someone who (1) always demands a favor for a favor, or (2) is normally focused on underlying truths, inevitable consequences, etc. If it's the second one, that's pretty cool!

There's a story about how the singer Mazaco got his name. He apparently spent a short time doing unskilled labor for extra money (a day job). One day, he had to unload many heavy sacks from the back of a truck, but he wasn't feeling up to it that day. Every time he stopped for a rest, someone would say, "Hey, there are more sacks," to which he'd respond, "¡¿Más sacos?!" :-)

Hey Curro,
Is Donald Duck really called "Anders And" in Danish?

(What is Woody Woodpecker called, just out of interest..[:D])

cheers,

Ron

Donald Duck = Kalle Anka (swedish)

Woody Woodpecker =Hacke Hackspet (swedish)

Anders Eliasson -> RE: Curro del Conquero (Nov. 9 2008 11:56:50)

Norman, El Conquero is a place in Huelva city. I only live some 25km from that place.
I like the name with the sacks. Its a good story. Curro del Conquero is just stupid.

Ron, Woody woodpecker is Sören Spätte.

Ron.M -> RE: Curro del Conquero (Nov. 9 2008 12:30:54)

Anders,
So is Anders the same as Donald?

Donald is a very Scottish name.
Actually so is "Anderson".
(In fact I live in Anderson Drive...)

No doubt a reminder of the times when the Vikings would pop over for a package holiday and a bit of drinking, rape and pillage....[:D][:D]

cheers,

Ron

Dont know if that helps, but anders in german means different. One could say.. Anders is anders... or Anders makes the difference...

Now that is a cool name!

Great...if you read that in Spanish (Calle Anca) it means Buttock Street. [:D]

Anders Eliasson -> RE: Curro del Conquero (Nov. 9 2008 23:03:27)

Ron,
Donald is not really Anders Anders comes from greek. Andros and its parrallels is André, Andreas, Andrés, Andrew, etc.

Hacke Hackspet is a cool name, especially if pronounced in Spanish. I still prefer Mazaco. It still makes me laugh.[:D]

ddk -> RE: Curro del Conquero (Nov. 10 2008 10:02:46)

Anders,

I think you should be proud of your new name and go with it. Could be a lot worse! How would you like to spend your life being called Little Tomato or Shrimp of the Island?
[:)][:)][:)]

Dean

Anders Eliasson -> RE: Curro del Conquero (Nov. 10 2008 23:14:32)

Actually, the performance was shown in the local Huelva television. I didn´t know, but my neighbour told me.....

I think they will forget that name. They were all kind of drunk. [:D]

Yeah, don't worry Anders - it's only the first time someone gave you a name, and they probably will forget it. Just keep playing and eventually you'll get a name you like, maybe. If they name you after a vegetable, that means you're playing really well. [;)]
