Thanks to Henrik, Mark Indigo, Andy, Estevan and everyone else for participating. I've suspected for some time now that the Talega/Diego recording isn't very well known, as indicated by the results of the survey (a lot of people in Spain don't seem to have it, either). This coincides nicely with Exitao's thread on Diego and Morón toque (among other things). I've heard several people comment that those solo recordings of Diego are not representative of his best playing. I think his best tracks released to date are this cassette with Talega and a couple of CDs with a booklet (long and narrow, black and orange colors) with Fernanda and Bernarda that appeared several years ago. I think it's titled "Cantes Inéditos" and is no longer available. IMO, nearly all the rest of the recordings of Diego are not nearly as good, and I think it's really worth the effort to hear these recordings before forming an opinon of Diego. Don't want to get sidetracked here, but I just want to say that Diego had a lot of excellent and challenging bulerías falsetas that really have to be heard (better to learn them) before drawing a conclusion. As I've tried to point out on my website, he seems to be one of the first (and certainly one of the most colorful) to play alzapúa. Sanlúcar's "Recital" is still available, as far as I can tell. Like I said, the Talega/Diego cassette and the Agujetas/Sanlúcar recording are all soleás and siguiriyas. There's another one like that by Antonio Mairena (Esquema histórico del cante por seguiriyas y soleares, or the reissue on the Museo del flamenco series). IMO, these three recordings are part of a very important "chapter" of flamenco, insofar as the tendencies that they represent. Thanks again for participating!
