[:D][:D][:D] french polishing, treacherous business. first, the shellack goes into the alcohol, then the alcohol goes in to trough the mouth - that's the easy part to remember... but you need to watch out with the spanish heat, take things slowly or you'll end up padding yourself with the spungy thing you found in the drink.

Right now I don't even want to think about getting a car and license.. it feels like a potential trap, all the expenses piling up endlessly.. license, insurance, fuel, loan, parking space, checks and repairs. I would have to cut my hair and get a job!

Anders, you guitars look great, they consistently do. The orange tint looks yummy, but I like the all natural blanca with dark details a lot. 2800euros eh... looks like I really do have to cut my hair and get a job.

Your English is better than mine. Seriously though, I'm thinking of FPing also. I can't stand the fumes and the hassle of spraying and the cleanup of lacquer. I think it's very relaxing to setup in a nice part of the shop with some good music on while you French polish. You feel more "connected" with the guitar than you do when lacquering. At least I have the few times I've polished.

If you are french polishing you don't need go fishing... they both satisfy the same need in man. Peace and quiet...

And I have many times thought of how much safer I would feel if the guitarist trying my guitar was a little more polished. To wrap him in plastic would do the trick, but it dulls the golpe too much...

(By the way duende and Magenta...are you going to Uppsala next month?)

I don't know if I'll be going this year, but thanks for the reminder. Some really big names this year too.. I'll have to give it some thought.

By the way, I've been meaning to ask you about that nail product you mentioned. What's it called? My nails have gone really bad from working with paint and stuff.

If you want to do it in the authentic Spanish way, don't forget to smoke while you polish. A little ash adds to the inherent flamencura of the guitar.

Well, this with FPing being relaxing..... Hm, yes if you have the time. It takes a LOOOOOOOng time and patience is very important. Also, the right hand shoulder feels a little sour after some weeks....

But as Tom says, better than these horrible toxic laquers.

Henrik. Yes these are ebony buttons. They cost a little extra. You can actually change the buttons on your tuners to these, but I dont know where to buy them.

What brand tuners are those on Henry's guitar's twin? Faustero?

I've got gotohs with the same colouring but "pearloid" buttons. I had been thinking that with the black threading it would have looked better with ebony buttons and when a buddy was checking out my guitar he said the onlythig he would have done different is get ebony, I went and ordered some off ebay.

I should get them this week, but I have no clue what they'll really look like. I just bought it on impulse...

The tuning machines are Gotohs with ebony buttons.

Really? Mine are 620s, but have different details in the ends (not lyres though).

I actually just got the ebony buttons yesterday. It had been preying on my mind that I had bought them on impulse and I hadn't actually measured my buttons to check the match ($10 didn't seem a lot of money and I tend to binge shop when I go on ebay sprees). Luckily they were precisely the same outer dimensions

The holes/bores through the button were too shallow for the shafts so I had to deepen the bores a little. I didn't have any appropriate tool so I sharpened a cheap precision slot head screwdriver to chisel it out like 2mm. There's a brass insert the shape of the tuning machine's knob shaft, so I just stuck my home-made chisel down at the end of the insert and chiselled from there. I don't think I've ever worked with a wood as hard as ebony.

If I had actually specced the guitar I would have likely chosen different tuners, but it was being made to someone else's specs and due to Jeff's pickiness I got it pretty much more than half off, so there was no point in even asking for any kind of change.

I could have tried ordering proper gotoh's, but this was faster... Maybe I can make cuff-links out of the pearloid buttons, what do you think?
