Hi Kate.
Good to hear from you.

cathulu -> RE: Hooray!!! (Aug. 19 2008 15:42:28)

Thanks for bringing back the foro!

Once a year when the rent is due you may want to consider a request for donations to keep it going, if money is an issue in future. Another forum I lurk does that with good success - they needed $250 bucks and got that plus more. $25 bucks times 20 or so people is pretty decent.

A sincere thanks again.

eccullen -> RE: Hooray!!! (Aug. 19 2008 16:35:38)

yes, really nice to have this going again.
Nice how this all came to be and what everyone rallied around; thanks to the active response.
Thanks to Flamenco-teacher, thanks to all.
And sigh, I feel some sort of broader relief, like this good event will echo into the world beyond...

HemeolaMan -> RE: Hooray!!! (Aug. 19 2008 17:32:41)

good job simon and ron, but i worked out whats going on here. my theory is this: you new it was going to go to the dogs, you felt we didnt appreciate you enough and thought you might give us the taste of what a nightmare admin can do (and a very extreme one at that) well i want you to know i always appreciated your admin skills and we are not all ingrates here[&:][:D]...(btw we promise to be good from now on, just dont throw us into the lions den again[:(])

Good to be back here after all the fun and games. I'm sure a request for donations would meet with a good response.

I was thinking the same thing last night. Its very easy to send a donation by paypal and with so many members we could raise enough to make sure we never have to worry about google ads paying for the site or Simon having to be out of pocket.

Kate

Escribano -> RE: Hooray!!! - back on top (Aug. 20 2008 1:17:11)

Try "foroflamenco" or "flamenco forum" in Google now and you should see us back on or near the top as predicted.

ricecrackerphoto -> RE: Hooray!!! (Aug. 20 2008 7:34:53)

what a great gift this place is. of course i only realized how much i value the foro when it went away like everyone else!

simon, i think an annual call for donations would be well met by everyone.

long live the foro!

So great to be back!!

Best foro on the net!!

Pimientito -> RE: Hooray!!! (Aug. 21 2008 1:28:57)

Ahh...all our baby birds back in their nests again. What an adventure...and I admire the solidarity of the forum members during this rocky episode. It really goes to show that the forum is about us...its members. If its a great place to be, its because of the company.
Thanks Simon for relocating the database and to Ramin for hosting us on Flamenco-teacher.

My only disappointment throughout all this has been the lack of Flos dramatic goodbye speech when he left foroflamenco.net for real. Having (sort of) left this forum several times I was looking forward to his 10 page blazing epitaph and was kind of surprised when one didnt appear...obviously it wasnt even worth wasting the rant....he just left.....which leads me to conclude that when members do get into lengthy debate and tempers sometimes are let loose, its actually because they care about what they are saying and who they are saying it to. A lengthy rant will only be delivered to someone worth spending the time ranting to. Our previous crazy captain did not deserve such an honour.

I hope this turn of events will maybe allow us to be a bit kinder to each other in future and I'm not promoting arguements here but heated debate (respectfully delivered) is preferable to the recent alternative of being unable to discuss anything without being sensored or banned.....long live the foro!

I second that Pimientito.

There should really be no need for Moderators or Admins, except for the technical guys who can keep this thing going.

I really mean that...

Try to remember the Mantra....

"Be Excellent to Each Other!" (Bill & Ted) [:D][:D]

cheers,

Ron

HemeolaMan -> RE: Hooray!!! (Aug. 21 2008 14:30:01)

Good work fella, proper job!

RobJe -> RE: Hooray!!! (Aug. 24 2008 9:45:52)

It's very strange trying to pick up this story after being away. Thanks to everyone who puts in the time to keep this excellent forum going. What attracts me to flamenco is that it is a living art and and not a dead one with the past being endlessly repeated. Good flamenco from all periods will never die. I suspect that poor old Donn Pohren helped to create the idea that there was only one kind of authentic flamenco - and at times it sounded like this could only happen in Moron de la Frontera. Well let's at least be clear about one thing - his old friend Diego de Gastor was a very bad boy and if he was alive today he would certainly have been banned from the Old Flamenco Foro!
Rob
