henrym3483 -> video of dance performance (Apr. 21 2008 11:32:00)

after much time, i finally got ahold of a video from the performance i did 8wks ago, this is the first time ive ever done dance accompaniment, looking at the video i can see quite a few errors but i think ok for a first attempt.

the dancer is Alba, she trained in seville with matilde coral, (flamenco wise , she is light years ahead). im the guy on the right and on the left is niall sorensen, were both taking lessons in flamenco guitar under the same teacher.

the sound set up was'nt the best, and even though i had brand new strings on the guitar it sounded flumpy.

anyway best

henry

I'm no expert but that looked pretty darn good for a first attempt!! I've recently started accompanying dancer's and we have been working on Sevillanas and Farruca which have been challenging but fun. The only way I can describe how difficult it is to accompany when you first start is my analogy of when I learned to drive a car. Way back then I remember the first time behind the wheel; I could barely take my eyes off the road to roll up the window or move the turn signal to make a lane change but as time and practice went on, I could not only roll the window up, but fiddle with the radio, and eat a burger while driving!!

Very good job for the first time, and you didn't pick the easiest to start with either! Only thing I'd add is if you have a video cam it can help to record and practise at home. Experienced players frown upon this but I think as a beginner it's better for analyzing the movements and order of the choreographies - you'll realize quicker how often they repeat themselves in all the palos. Don't be afraid to learn by heart at first: no use in trying to train an intuition if you don't know what you should expect yet.

Got off the beaten path there: GREAT JOB and keep working at it [:)]

Fine stuff, Henry!
As I've always said, Flamenco does not have to be either virtuoso or complex to be good and enjoyable.
I thought it was great myself.
A big olé to your dancer too!
A little bit of cante would have made the performance really spot on IMO.

cheers,

Ron
