Conrad -> New Arcangel videos! (Apr. 18 2008 17:37:42)

Hi, everybody,

I just uploaded some beautiful Arcangel videos. He's one of my favourite cantaors and he's singing with some great guitarists here:

Also check for some other PdL vids etc... that I have uploaded on my channel.

***By the way... YouTube is beginning to integrate a new high quality option. If you look at the bottom right of the video, just below it, there is a tv icon and you can dictate the quality setting (you can also go to your account and set a default for all videos so you don't have to change it every time you watch). Anyway, they say high quality is only advisable if you have a fast connection, I think. And so far this option is only available on newer videos, uploaded in the past 2 or 3 weeks, but what I read is that they are going to update the entire catalogue gradually. I don't know how they do it. I read that they apparently change the resolution and bitrate for higher quality. In my opinion it's true, the sound is louder and clearer, and the video better depending on what file format was originally uploaded.

Eventually, I'm going to want to download all those videos in my archive of youtube steals again, and that will be annoying!! Anyway, see for yourself... compare this Paco video:

...The high quality version is definitely better than what I remember as I originally uploaded it, but the "standard quality" looks actually worse than what I remember when I uploaded it! Perhaps this is how they "break even", so to speak. Or they just want to help people with slower connections, I don't know. We'll see what happens.

At any rate it looks like YouTube is finally growing up!!! Just imagine how many videos they will have to change if this is true. It means they must have stored the original uploads somewhere and not discarded them. Staggering!

cheers,

Con

Thanks for sharing your vids. I have heard the name Arcangel before, but I guess I hadn't heard him sing before. I agree, great voice. Think I might have to pick up one of his discs. Any recommendations?

You're right the difference in quality of the standard v. high quality is very noticeable. Thanks again for taking the time to upload.

Thanks for the links. Great fun to watch.

The paco alegria vid is nice. Isnt it funny to see paco and Joseles clothes? Paco is shaped in his unique "paco-style" with the white shirt and the black west. And Josele is also building his style, maybe to fit in the theme of his CD "PAZ"- with a serious hairstyle and a closed shirt with a necktie. Interesting to see they are working with things you can identify somebody with.. whatever.. Nice.

I like the Soleares but I think he is a little limited in certain areas of the cante. I say this from my 50 years in this art. But everyone has something to say that has merit.

Francisco... really you can't go wrong. He has three albums, all great, but I would go with "Arcangel", or "Ropavieja", his latest disc with those guitarists in the video on it, too.

cheers

Doit... You're right. So often now I see people really dressing up in flamenco or trying to make a personal statement, not sure if it was always like that, but maybe the culture has conformed a bit or become more and more a professional medium, full of carefully marketed artists.

Tom, ya, I hear you. Actually he is known for his fandangos I think, but in this performance he doesn't sing by himself at times, especially my favourite letra, which he should have sung stronger.

Yes, we are different generations, too. But I like it all. Also, I'm probably not well versed in cante like you are. I just love this guy's tender yet intense voice, and he has quite a vocal range as well! I think he sings Alegrias very well, bulerias not the best, a little too smooth, yet still good and innovative.
