Escribano -> MY FIRST DOCUMENTARY - making a flamenco guitar (Apr. 15 2008 22:15:43)

Well, after 2 years I finally finished my first full-length documentary:

EL GUITARRERO - the making of a flamenco guitar

In a unique collaboration between guitar maker and film maker,
"El Guitarrero" follows Anders Eliasson as he builds a flamenco
guitar, from selecting the wood to the first stringing.

With unprecedented access to his workshop in Andalucía, the film
describes the fashioning of the most important tool of the
flamenco guitarist... the guitar.

2 DVD set
Format: PAL or NTSC
Subtitles: English and Spanish
Run Time: 110 mins approx.

"An impressive debut. Well researched, well shot and imaginatively produced" Andrew Trimbee - author and ex-Daily Telegraph

"Flamenco guitar requires rare talent. So does making films that tell a story... this excellent documentary marries the two" Vernon Grant - producer BBC, ITV, C4 Dispatches

You can see the trailer

I will be selling this DVD directly and profits go towards the maintenance of the forum. Details on how to order will be posted here very soon. This is just to give you a sneak preview.

Sheesh, that was hard work! Thanks for your patience Anders.

Arash -> RE: MY FIRST DOCUMENTARY - making a flamenco guitar (Apr. 15 2008 22:30:08)

Ah ok.....cant wait to see the documentary!
Didnt know that you guys had such a project going on!

I always wanted to see how a flamenco guitar is built (from beginning until finished guitar).... this is really great news!
I saw the video from Stephen Hill and it was also very interesting.
But this will be great (110 Mins.) [:)]

Yeah, we kept it very quiet. Ron and Tom knew but probably gave up on me [;)]

I am not sure it has been done before this close and in such detail.

Ramón -> RE: MY FIRST DOCUMENTARY - making a flamenco guitar (Apr. 15 2008 23:47:32)

This looks very cool.... I have it paused so I can wait and enjoy the trailer...

Conrad -> RE: MY FIRST DOCUMENTARY - making a flamenco guitar (Apr. 16 2008 3:11:36)

I sort of knew about this, too because I saw a rambling of yours about it on youtube, hahaha.

Fantastic stuff, Big Cheese, Simon!! What a wonderful way to end your stay. Best of luck. Hopefully I will be buying a copy, too!!

And Anders, I dearly love the back and sides' colour matching in your guitars and the french polishing. Beautiful instruments.

warmest regards,

Con

Oh man, this gets me all giddy like a schoolgirl.

Anders Eliasson -> RE: MY FIRST DOCUMENTARY - making a flamenco guitar (Apr. 16 2008 7:33:56)

Holy cow. Its official. We started 2 1/2 year ago. It was fun.

Great trailer Simon. Really good.

The documentary is very nice. I only have problem with it. I cant stand wathing and hearing myself. If someone else was the guitarmaker, I would probably have seen it 100 times by now. [:D]

Anders Eliasson -> RE: MY FIRST DOCUMENTARY - making a flamenco guitar (Apr. 16 2008 7:38:22)

Just wanted to add that this is not some lousy quality youtube product. This is high end recording with a VERY high video and sound quality. Its absolutely top notch. Simon did a GREAT job. You can see it on a 42" and it says crystal clear.

Anders Eliasson -> RE: MY FIRST DOCUMENTARY - making a flamenco guitar (Apr. 16 2008 7:41:45)

Also, the guitar being build, you can see and hear on two youtube videos. One, where I´m playing and another where Emilio Maya checks it out.

The videos can be found here: http://www.eliassonguitars.com/music.htm

Doitsujin -> RE: MY FIRST DOCUMENTARY - making a flamenco guitar (Apr. 16 2008 7:57:13)

Looks very good and very interesting. I think its a must have and will defenitely buy one.

Ron.M -> RE: MY FIRST DOCUMENTARY - making a flamenco guitar (Apr. 16 2008 8:46:41)

Olé Simon,

The finished product looks fantastic!
Yer a talented guy! [:D]

Some great guitar playing from Anders there too and captured with great sound.

Looking forward to seeing the complete film!

cheers,

Ron

Hi

This is my first post here but I’ve been chivvied out of longtime lurking by the excitement of getting my hands on this dvd. I’m glad also that it is a way of contributing to the forum financially.

This forum is such a fantastic resource; I’m only the humblest beginner but I’ve learned a lot here – when I have something intelligent to contribute myself I will but thank you to all those who do contribute so much.

I see the DVD features Anders’ dog Nimbus (?) - I hope there is more with him in? then I can watch in comfort with my own westie Lulu (they’ve swapped pics already).

Simon – best wishes on your future – I’ve just given up a life of working in the digital world to pursue my own quixotic dream but know that things change.

Best wishes

Huw

I was viewing these videos yesterday and must say you are the real flamenco deal. Your playing and guitar on the video has a tone from a bygone flamenco era, one of true expression with a mysterious captivation. IMO you have discovered the true roots of pure flamenco. I look forward to getting this video. I was impressed with the fact you use nearly all hand tools ... in the 70's I built three guitars with all hand tools and can appreciate the hours of hard work it takes as well as the maker to guitar contact that imparts the mystique to a guitar. IMO the vibrations from power tools is not conducive to opening up the magic of high grade tone wood. Scraping the wood down with the grain as opposed to orbital sanding....

El Camino -> RE: MY FIRST DOCUMENTARY - making a flamenco guitar (Apr. 16 2008 21:58:42)

This looks great

You can put me down for a copy .

I can only dream of owning one of theses beauty,s at the moment
but in the future Anders is the man i will be talking too .

Well done

I trust you are not taking the peese? And anyway, that would mean 200 Euros, which is a little steep [;)]

TANúñez -> RE: MY FIRST DOCUMENTARY - making a flamenco guitar (Apr. 19 2008 0:19:37)

I found out that Mike Rutherford, guitarist for Genesis was Anders stunt double in the film. He was used in that scene where Anders is sitting on a cliff or hilltop carving a neck. They didn't want to take the chance of Anders falling off so they used the stunt double.

Doitsujin -> RE: MY FIRST DOCUMENTARY - making a flamenco guitar (Apr. 19 2008 12:59:26)

I know here are many sensitive people, so if you think my comments sound too harsh in general, stop reading it here. <-- The following lines are not harsh, just some opinions and experiences about costs of DVD prodjects. So dont be mad, I dont wanna attack here. But I cant write in such a softy way which wouldnt offend anybody here, sorry. .. So.. the sensitive people, if you went on reading.. STOP READING -->HERE<-- ! ;.)

Well.. there is no big company hanging in between which catches much money and it will be (maybe) a semiprofessional homemade design with cheap material. Maybe copyed by the author himself with a DVD-burner on 50cents DVDs from ALDI. In that case 10-12 Euro would be a fair price. ...
If its in professional design and material and also the Data. I would pay more. I dont know how it will be, so its just what my thoughts about homemade DVD-Projects are.

If you check this page, its about a report about camaron and modern flamenco. The actors are gerardo nunez, Anton Jimenez, Diego Cigala, and many more.
http://www.digitalduende.eu/

They made a very long very professional report with very professional style, also the presentation and the editiong and data-quality with famous people and the DVD just cost 12Euro (Mwst. and postalcosts are included).
So.. 30Euro is a bit expensive IMO, but maybe the costs are explainable and Im wrong. Just my thoughts.

Well, the encuentro series are providing tons of material of commercial compositions. They sell this product (Tabs). I also think the encuentro prices are a bit overdone,.. but its more realistic to take more money for this instead of just some informations.

Yes, the foro member discount price is a good idea![:D] (I hope I dont get kicked before I can buy it...[:o] )
