Hannabach, You are right it shouldn't happen, but it does and I see no fault by Marin or by you. My opinion is it isn't a direct effect of humidity. You gave this guitar the fine care it deserves. Marin used the best seasoned wood available and saw no defect or reason to believe it would crack. Now my theory from making 2 flamenco guitars and repairing several over the years. I think the wood had an invisible weakness unbeknownist to Marin. The crack appeared from vibrations after the guitar was played and is now spread. We must remember that the wood was once a living thing. How it grew and developed was subject to many factors. A weakness with the grain might have been from a dryer or wetter than usual year. My point is as with any living thing weaknesses are part of life and sometimes in wood they maybe hidden even from the most expert eye. After the wood is properly seasoned then the maker selects the wood and makes the guitar. He then test the guitar to see if it meets his standards, if so it is then sold. The change of humidity, elevation, etc may help the vibrations to open a crack in the weak area, but in my opinion it is a weakness that allows the vibrations to open a crack in a new fine master grade guitar. I agree with you and would insist on a new top. A repair might resolve the problem and probaby not effect the tone, but the idea of a repaired crack might bother you. Also if from a weakness in the wood, more cracks might open. From what I have heard, Marin will have no problem making this right with you.
