I met him two years ago. He was sitting in a danceshool where I play and he fiddled around a bit. Well... it didnt look very impressing what he did, so I didnt pay much attention.. [&:] Ah, yes..now I remember. I thought hes a dork coz a dfriend of mine got a job to play for a danceclass for one of these female clompers from sevilla. Hes musician and had a contract. Than Santiago came from nowhere and told him that he have to leave coz the female clomper is his girlfriend. So Santi. played for the class and catched the money of my friend. That wassnt nice behaviour. So.. In respect to my friend, I wont check his youtube spam.[>:]

Could somebody explain the significance of the term, "Concurso de arte flamenco de Cordoba." Is it a competition, a yearly showcase or event?

Wow! This guy is amazing. It's great that there are many new flamenco guitarists emerging on the scene. And most of them are really superb players. I love the "modern" flamenco sound with all those really awesome flamenco chords.

I felt he is heavily influenced by Vicente Amigo.

Terrific![:)]

Check out the other videos of the Uploader. He has added other videos from Antonio Rey, Tino van der Sman and many others...

@pgh_flamenco

it is one of the main flamenco contests which covers three areas of competition: cante, dance and guitar

Dojitsun-

i believe that 'female clomper' girlfried of his is the stellar, world-class dancer Mercedes Ruiz. The best alegria performer I have ever seen, and I've seen all the greats.

If I were bumped from a dance class gig by somebody as ggood as Santiago, and especially if it's because he was playing for his girlfriend Mercedes Ruiz, I'd feel honored and humbled, not upset.

dude, your friend needs to get over himself. seriously.

That would make sense - I'm pretty sure they were both trained at the source, Manolo Sanlucar!!

You can call me crazy, but I don't find him impressive at all.

He is far from Mr. Amigo.

In my opinion.

Adam -> RE: SANTIAGO LARA - Videos (Mar. 3 2008 7:51:50)

Have you heard his album? He's very good when his music has a backing band to give it more fullness, and the album on the whole is really fantastic.

cneberg -> RE: SANTIAGO LARA - Videos (Mar. 3 2008 7:53:47)

No , I haven't. I'm sure he sounds much better on a record, with a full band.

John O. -> RE: SANTIAGO LARA - Videos (Mar. 3 2008 18:49:59)

The great thing about Santiago is his ability to create beautiful melodies. I think it's great that many of these are playable for any intermediate to advanced player. It's also very easy to integrate his falsetas into one's own playing. With all due respect to Vicente & Co., ideas and falsetas which don't take weeks for a professional to be able to play can be lot more inspiring sometimes. He himself in an interview said he never thought of himself as a virtuoso. That's not what it's about anyways...

As to what he did up in Essen, taking someone's paycheck sucks. Still, taking it up a step - if Carmen Cortés would ever consider doing a workshop in my area of Germany I'd be like "Where's Gerardo??????" [:D]

Ramirez -> RE: SANTIAGO LARA - Videos (Mar. 3 2008 20:08:04)

Nice find - thanks for posting!

Am really enjoying the zapateado from his album - good to see him play it live, really cool melodic ideas and progression. He has quite a mature touch on the guitar and great melodic sense.

Talented young guy...
