Stephen Rees -> RE: Spanish luthiery words (Feb. 3 2008 6:34:48)

Goma Laca - shellac / French polish ..... or maybe I should call it Spanish polish?
Barniz - varnish ?
Muñequilla - small pad or 'rubber' for applying polish

.....I think !?

munequilla means little doll, or little rag doll

in french polishing a muneca is a pag of wool wrapped in a fabric which often ends up looking liek a little doll.

it is used for applying the shellac and rubbing it in.

so munequilla= muneca= french polishing applicator= little doll
