Sorry, not guitars, but two great violins.

I heard this player discuss this on the news this morning and thought it would be of interest to members here (especially ex-violinist and now Guitar Luthier, Anders.)

Scroll down to the Index of mp3s and click on "Which Violin"

cheers,

Ron

Tasmin Little says

"but its the violin (instrument) that dictates the range of possibilities that can be produced"

And thats what its all about[;)]

"chicken is always chicken...but it can be made to taste entirely different depending upon how it is cooked..."

Ever had food poisoning?

Ted Nugent once demanded to play Eddie Van Halen's guitar because he wanted "that sound" and didn't want to be limited by the range of possibilities of his Gibson.

When he played it he sounded like Ted Nugent playing a beat up guitar covered in sticky tape.

In my opinion (and Crazy Ted's in hindsight) the range of possibilities that can be produced is more dependant upon the player than the instrument.

prd1

Is your playing really that bad...?

TANúñez -> RE: Comparing Instruments (Jan. 27 2008 9:18:20)

I have to totally agree with kugi. Take me for example. I can make a cheap Yamaha flamenco sound really bad AND, I can make a $8000 Conde sound even worse. [sm=Smiley Guitar.gif]

Thanks for posting this Ron. It made me realize how much I enjoy listening to the violin. Wonderful instrument.

You are comparing an electrical guitar with a flamenco guitar. I´ve built and played both and can say that they are very different animals.

You are of course right in saying that the player is much more important than the instrument, but the thread is not about that. What Tasmin Little says is that its the instrument that determines the range of possibilitys of a good player. A bad instrument will not make you devellop your playing.
