Jan Willem -> RE: My other passion KUNG FOOO!!!! (Jan. 4 2008 1:31:38)

nice henry, I've done taekwando for a long time....but you can't compare that to fung fu. Nice vids.

If i ever start again with martial arts I definetly go for aikido. Much more relaxed and not so agressive

Georg -> RE: My other passion KUNG FOOO!!!! (Jan. 4 2008 2:26:27)

If my fan doesn't work, can I book you with your two swords?

Kung Foo must be a lot of fun to learn...and a lot of pain.

henrym3483 -> RE: My other passion KUNG FOOO!!!! (Jan. 4 2008 2:41:10)

Yeah Kung fu's alot of hard work but worth it, fellow foro member John.O has got skills too but i'll let him to tell you about them rather than me.

Henry,
Don't try this at Heathrow Airport in order to pass some time if your flight is delayed, otherwise one of those stoney-faced police officers with the little, short automatic rifles...well...you are gonna make his day! [:D]

cheers,

Ron

Estevan -> RE: My other passion KUNG FOOO!!!! (Jan. 4 2008 11:08:48)

Thanks for posting this, Henry - you've reminded me to stop being lazy and get up and do something! [;)]
I've also studied various martial arts on and off over the years, but haven't done much for a while. The most interesting - and demanding - thing I did was xinyiquan, you get the idea from these examples:

...and I came across this nice little clip of my teachers' grandfather!

Yes, time to get moving again....[8|]

henrym3483 -> RE: My other passion KUNG FOOO!!!! (Jan. 4 2008 11:26:09)

estevan,

here's some of the xingyi quan ive learnt from various teachers, xingyi killed my legs and arms, san ti shi is a killer on the body.

Georg -> RE: My other passion KUNG FOOO!!!! (Jan. 4 2008 23:20:09)

Is there any use for your long hard flamenco fingernails? You could asratch your opponents like a girl...?[;)]

Estevan -> RE: My other passion KUNG FOOO!!!! (Jan. 5 2008 5:14:20)

Thanks Henry, that's great - and it's you doing it too! (neither of those Chinese guys is me, by the way) [;)].
I did the wuxing xingyi too, it's very nice. The liuhe xin-yi (no 'g') is a quite different system that was a tradition handed down within the community of Muslim minority people. The basic posture is the 'pheasant walk' that you see in the first video - believe me, after that, san ti shi feels relaxing! [&:]

henrym3483 -> RE: My other passion KUNG FOOO!!!! (Jan. 5 2008 7:04:43)

estevan,

yeah ive seen quite a bit of it before, i really like the headbutts that are in the xin yi liuhe system, xinyi liuhe is the father of xing yi quan, plus i think in xin yi there are alot more varied animal forms. did you do monkey squating, i was shown the exercise and it really works the back and shoulders hard.

best

henry

I think at one point in time, Glasgow used to be the Centre of Excellence for this technique, especially on Friday and Saturday evenings if my memory serves me well..[:D]

cheers,

Ron

Ailsa -> RE: My other passion KUNG FOOO!!!! (Jan. 5 2008 21:49:50)

Nice clips - I was doing Taijutsu until I did a spectacularly high kick and pulled a muscle in my back! Now am reduced to watching Michelle Yeoh films.

But my son still goes and it really has helped him in all sorts of ways - given him confidence and discipline, helped with concentration. And I really like how much emphasis they place on respect.

Stu -> RE: My other passion KUNG FOOO!!!! (Jan. 5 2008 23:50:11)

Nice thread! I've wanted to learn kung fu for ages!
Any of you english folk see that doco last night about extreme pilgrimage. Very interesting programme about an english C of E vicar from Sussex who decided to travel around the globe in search of God through other religious practices. He's gonna hang with holy men in india (saddhus i think) and also Christian hermits in the caves in egypt, but last night he spent a month or so with Shaolin monks in china practicing kung fu harnessing his Qi, working with the monks etc, really was quite moving when he suddenly "got it" after weeks of being frustated and over thinking about everything the "penny dropped" and he understood. It was called extreme pilgrimage Check it out if you get the chance.

Stu

ps. you are right Estevan! the famous "Glasgee Kiss", although I've also heard it called a "Wigan Kiss" either way I'd much prefer a kiss of the french variety from the right person

henrym3483 -> RE: My other passion KUNG FOOO!!!! (Jan. 7 2008 23:21:46)

andresito -> RE: My other passion KUNG FOOO!!!! (Jan. 8 2008 12:00:15)

Hey Tom, I like the remix of your video, but it looks a bit like you're doing an Australian salute (swatting flies) at some points! Nice (punch) drunk style, though [:D]
