Playing Flamenco guitar is surely a thankless task, no matter how good you are,
unless you have some legendary status that precedes you.
If an MC had come on beforehand and said, "Ladies and Gentlemen, we have the great pleasure of presenting to you one of the top 3 Flamenco guitarists in the whole world"(even if it's not true)...then everyone would have shut up.

When I was watching Serranito in Chinitas muchos aƱos ago, it was the same problem.
All the wealthy diners just spoke and laughed and chinked their plates and glasses throughout his playing.
Half of them or more didn't know who he was or even cared.

It honestly makes me wonder how players Tomatito and Gerardo etc have made any money out of this unless they have a very thick skin and a good nose for business.

Once you get on the road, it seems Tomatito is the same as Gerardo is the same as Juan Martin is the same as Manitas de Plata as far as the general public are concerned IMO.

Just "Spanishy" entertainment.

cheers,

Ron
