Thank you, Stephen, for an excellent and fascinating video.
It makes me want to pack up and come to visit you ... and watch while you build a guitar for me.

Thats a very nice film clip Stephen. When did you start the filming. It takes a long time. Believe me, I know sbout it[8D]

Kate -> RE: stephen hill film (Nov. 30 2007 13:51:09)

That was fascinating Stephen, not just seeing the guitar take shape but hearing the history of the guitar. Very nicely shot as well.

I got a bit confused at the beginning with the close up of cheese and caulifower [;)]

See you down on the coast in the spring, we're holed up in the studio and house with fire blazing after harold spent a week filming a car advert in temps of minus 2 on the Sierra. Bet it's still warm and lovely where you are.

Abrazos
Kate

TANúñez -> RE: stephen hill film (Nov. 30 2007 16:25:35)

That was fantastic. I only wish it was longer. Your work inspires me greatly Stephen. Maybe I'll just say to hell with building and have you make me one. [:)]

Tom -

Why not just jump into the more combatant threads, then you'll be too busy to worry about building guitars? Save money that way? :)

Jeff

I believe that the whole 50 minute film will be online very soon. This is a little teaser. We started filming a year ago and finished 3 months later. The only thing I dont like is my lousy no nails playing. I do sound better with nails..! mmm I must have a look at the cauliflower and cheese, aslo the salad cream bit... didnt see that. amazing what happens aroiund you when the cameras rolling!

TANúñez -> RE: stephen hill film (Nov. 30 2007 19:49:47)

Hey Stephen,

After watching the first part of the video where your running the glue along the edges of the kerfing to glue the back, I thought of a question as it didn't show you doing this. Do you also drop glue into the slot you cut out where the back braces will be seating inside the kerfing or do you only put glue along the edges of the kerfing. Just curious.

The cheese and cauliflower stuff seems like an intro to Spain, close ups on fruit stalls and people shopping. ( Ok now will have to watch it again in case I was having a flasback [;)] )

I think El Ted was refering to the glue you were using on the guitar as salad cream. You know the stuff you squeeze from a bottle. No connection at all to my cheese and coli comment

Ron.M -> RE: stephen hill film (Nov. 30 2007 23:03:40)

Hey Stephen,
All I get is this intro by this guy McKellar and then it goes back to the start and repeats.
Que Pasa?
No Guitarras no Stephen??

Very nice, Stephen. I am looking forward to see the whole film.

A question. What is the name of the little japanese tool that you use shaving some wood from the heel?

stephen hill -> RE: stephen hill film (Dec. 1 2007 18:50:30)

Hi per, the tools to get are either a Bamboo Leaf Knife (Sasa-Ba) or a Yarri-Kanna Homepage > Fine Tools > Carving Tools > Special Japanese Carving Tools > Mini

Mini Yarri-Kanna No. 710117
you can find them at http://www.dick.biz/eindex.htm

great tools. one you use them nothing else will do. hard to sharpen tho..

there seems to be some naughty words filter.. the company is d i c k in germany

Ron.M -> RE: stephen hill film (Dec. 1 2007 22:16:49)

Thanks Stephen,
Very moving film.
I loved the bits about the guitar relating to the people, "la tierra" and the sun.
Tomatito, in his "Encuentro" video mentions the sun as an important component to Flamenco.
I sometimes feel that the woody and dry sound from a good Flamenco guitar somehow captures and releases that landscape to the player.

Thanks.

cheers,

Ron
