has anyone ever owned one of his guitars? zavaleta's has a new one for sale, albeit with dings from pepe habicuela:

i had the pleasure to play one once in a store here in LA, did not realize it was WAY underpriced since i had never heard of him, returned a few hours later to find out it had already been sold.

granted, i'm happy with my jesus bellido and will be so for years probably. but i can still hear how dry and woody that blanca was. would love to hear a review fro someone with more experience with his guitars.

thanks!

In 1992 I went to Granada to pick up a guitar. Afterwards I went to see Antonio Duran and found Rafael in his shop. He had a super blanca which I would have been keen to buy if I hadn't aleady spent all my money! It was very tight and crisp with no cejilla on and still had a magical voice further up the fingerboard. Since then he has made a bit of name for himself and his prices have risen considerably. I think that he is someone who has a good idea of what a flamenco guitar should be like - so worth looking at.

This is Rafael's original head design. Perhaps he is emulating Antonio Marin Montero's practice of reverting to an older design just for flamencos. Both designs and the one of Antonio Duran are regonisable as being variations on that of Eduardo Ferrer where they all started out - just different twiddly bits on the top. Antonio Duran, as the heir to the Ferrer workshop has a design that is almost identical to that of his mentor.
