I own an oud that I bought in Morocco in 1973. It has never been properly played and the original strings (gut!) are still on it -- all need replacing.
I'm thinking about trying a little Almoraima-type composition; I've never had trouble picking up a new string instrument and I'm pretty sure I could become adequate on oud pretty quickly if I knew how to start.
Where would I find strings? How is it tuned?
Is there instruction out there?
Anybody have any experience with oud?
