Kate -> Semana Santa - House to rent Granada (Nov. 1 2007 18:42:53)

Hooray just booked a month out in Vietnam next Easter. So if anyone wants to rent out a house in the AlbaicĂn, Granada for Semana Santa 2008 get in touch. It has a terrace with views to the Sacromonte, Alhambra and mountains, and is only 5 mins walk from centre of town. It has one bedroom but the lounge and study both have sofa beds so can sleep 6. ( Maybe 8 if we get the attic space sorted out by next year). There's a bathroom and seperate toilet. TV with 60 odd channels, and 24 hour internet access. Close by is San Miguel Bajo with great restaurants. Perfect location and its available for a month from 7 March to 8 April 2008. If anyone from the foro books it I'll stock the fridge with beer and leave a couple of bottles of rioja in the wine rack [:D]

Cant wait to do some travelling :)

Easter is very early next year so it's the beginning of spring. We're high up so we get sunny days but can be cold at night. We have a log fire which keeps the house cosy. It's a nice time of year, crisp air with spring on the way.

Ahhh, Kate, that sounds amazing! I love your place - beautiful house, great location. I don't think I'd be able to afford it but, oh, that's our spring break, we'll see. Fully stocked, too, eh? Hmm, and the little garden on your top balcony, will that be open too? [;)]

Ah yes the top terrace is included [:D] We also set up an irrigation system so the vast number of geraniums, lemon tree, jasmine etc get watered automatically. What isn't included is the recording studio, sorry about that chaps.

Unless Harold stays behind (for a price) [:D]

And my house has a couple of rooms free for a month over Christmas, while I am in Mexico. Lots of not very much in the village, but a couple of buses a day to Granada. [:)]

Yes thanks Doug we will. Have you ever been ? My brother has lived there for ten years now and this will be our first visit. Planning to spend time in Cambodia as well to see Anghor Watt. We're very excited.

Ah Mexico, sounds wonderful, a month over there for Christmas. Have a great time. Oh and I cant leave Harold behind when we go to Vietnam as my brother seems to have work lined up for him over there. Poor man, no rest for the wicked.

hi kate,

i've been to hanoi twice and it is still a pure and charming place. i envy you for the food you will be eating, the sights you'll see, and the super strong coffee you'll be drinking!

was going to reccommend this restaurant to you but with your brother there, there's no need.

hope you post lots of pics! here are my pics though i haven't been in five years:

Hi Doug,

Will send pm about the house. Going to post some pics too when I take them, maybe tomorrow.

Loved your pics of Hanoi. Obviously you're a professional. I checked out your bio and laughed my head off, great photo, is that your family ?

My brother lives in Ho Chi Minh now but he used to live in Hanoi so we'll be taking a trip there as I've heard and seen so much about it. He did a great video he took riding round the city on his motorbike, yes one handed holding a camera. Pure madness. He still has an office there and one in Phon Pen (Cambodia) so we'll be getting about a bit. He runs a creative arts agency so hopefully there will be lots of interesting film and photos shoots to go on. Brother is trying to persuade me to buy new state of art camera, its very tempting as my old Sony Cybershot is very frustrating. He suggested the Canon Rebel.

Food wise it's an incredible place, luckily lots of vegetarian stuff available for Harold who's a veggie, but I'm looking forward to seafood, rice and noodles. Granada is not known for it's Asian cuisine.

Only 4 1/2 months to go [:@]

Well I live in hope. There is a growing Asian community here now and at last we have a decent Asian supermarket. Sadly my favourite Sushi bar closed down. The last Chinese meal I had was on the coast and I was quite sick from an MSG overdose [&:] Never again !!

thanks for the email, kate. yes one of my favorite things in hanoi is watching all those family of fives piled on one 200c motorbike navigating rush hour traffic.

your brother will know this restaurant in hanoi: its a place that has served only one dish for the past 200 years or so, a saffron noodle fish stew. one of the best meals i've ever had an it only cost about $1.10.

ps-that was a family portrait about 8 years ago. i told my parents i wouldn't participate unless they did a black sabbath tribute shot for me. they're still pissed its on my site.

My brother recently crashed into a one legged, one armed man riding his bicycle ( don;t ask me how!!) the wrong way up a one way street. When my brother apologised (typically English despite 20 years out there) he said not to worry it happens all the time !!!!

Yes I've heard about that. Three of my favourite ingredients. How wonderful that it has stayed the same for so long. I watch with dismay here when the old bars close down and they open trendy, modern places with no soul.

Seriously love your family portrait. Would love to get my family like that, they prefer us all to look like the Brady Bunch [:@]
