Hi there I thought it might be nice for interesteed people to submit a list of books on non flamenco guitar playing that 'do what they say on the tin'. In paraticular books that are so well structured that if you are experienced player and a strong reader you can learn real fast just by playing along with the accompanyng CD form start to finish.

A few great books that I have enjoyed recently.

Arnie Berle and Mark Galbo 'Beginning Fingerstyle Blues'
Les Wise 'The Bebop Bible'
Paul Musso 'Teach Your Guitar to Walk'
Jim Ferguson 'All Blues for Jazz Guitar'

It would be nice to hear about any books that others have been reading in this format which are well thought out. Also dreadful books to avoid might be interesting too.

An example of a dreadful book would be Mel Bays Funk Guitar and their Jazz guitar method by Jodie Fisher.

PS if anyone ( although I am calling noone predictable .[:D]) wants to tell me that it is impossible to learn form books please spare me, it could well be a local and not a global phenomenon.

I found nothing new in that book but I had been through a load of that kind of thing before reading it about ten yearsw ago. Nice presentation and lots of different ideas from other people gathered on one place. These things have to be studied so that we can go on and design our own excercises and stuff.

Any others?

D
