Arash -> More Enjoyment/understanding flamenco after beeing in spain (Oct. 23 2007 23:48:35)

I realised that i did a step forward in my mind after being in spain and in cities like Granada and Sevilla.

I dont know how to explain it but for instance when i hear a Granaina now with all those open strings, i revisualize all the pictures and impressions from the mountains, the people, the streets, the fresh air, etc. and somehow i feel that i understand it much more than before.

Also regarding cante,,,,,i was not so much in to cante but now it is different.
It seams like another door has been opened which was locked before.
I enjoy it now and although i dont understand what they are singing, i understand it!

Guadiana for instance.....this Granaina is so beautiful

I dont know, maybe it is also because i am persian and because of the closeness of the culture, behaviour and feelings
and also closeness of the tonality of the persian music and flamenco.

And when i play (or attend to play) a Granaina, i imagine that i am in still in Granada and somehow my guitar sounds better now!![:D]

Before this experience i had no idea about these places and the origins of this beautiful palos.

I would like to know from those non spanish people who were in spain (and do not live in spain) if you have a similar experience.
I bet you do!!

Sure. You are not alone, and it is not just cause you are persian. It is about acquiring knowledge and developing tastes. Next on the plate for you after Granaina, should be Malagueña...my personal fav at the moment.

The Granaina is a personal favourite e.g. Pepe Habichuela's Mi Tierra.

Granada is not "my land" but I share it (and my life) with my neighbours and it makes more emotional sense to me nowadays.

A small note: Granada can refer to the city or the Province; as it is with all Spanish provinces and their city of local government. It is worth remembering this is in flamenco terms.

But a Granadino/Granadina is someone from the city, I think.

In the local dialect, I am an adopted Restabeño [;)]

Oooh, I really like that guy's voice!

I know what you mean - I loved flamenco before spending June in Granada (with trips to Córdoba and Sevilla) but now I appreciate it a lot more...oh, and I also love (and have loved even before I went to Spain!) Granaínas!

Ricardo, of course it is not just because i am persian [:D](i said "maybe also")
But I think that some similarities in the culture help me to step faster forward in the path of flamenco.
Of course you are right...mainly its all about knowledge and taste.

I was in Granada, Sevilla, Cordoba and Madrid.
Next time i want to go to Jerez, Huelva, Malaga, Ronda.
I think these are the most important stations to which i still have to go.
(And the last trip will be to Marbella on the beach [:D])

Escribano, i agree.
Granaina is also one of my fav. palos now.
There was a time in which i only was in to bulerias.

p.s. knew that the province is called Granada but the Granada city was the only reference that i have up to now.

Dont forget Cadiz, and the beaches over there are better than any in Marbella.
