Hello there everyone. I am a new member to this forum and am quite new to the flamenco style also. I did join foro some while ago, but just so I could download that flamenco master program,[8|]. Anyway I have been reading some of your posts and I am very impressed. It looks like there are some really nice helpfull people on here. I have learned a lot over the past wee while just because of this forum, so thanks.
I was wondering if any of you are from scotland/uk, or if anyone has some info on the flamenco scene in scotland. I have looked on the internet, but nothing much comes up. Especially in Aberdeen my home city. So far my only resource is the internet, but as you guys know that can be frustrating,(unless you know where to look). I would like to know of any courses or performances coming up and also where I can find a guitar shop which sells flamencos. My guitar is spanish, but I think it is a bit downmarket. It has a hole in it and is held together purely by my love for it, if I got a better one my guitar would probably spontaneously turn to dust. Also technically I don't own it, its my friends, but he has loads anyway, (he can't play very well! sorry ricardo lol).

God I went on a bit there....

Any information would be appreciated.

Welcome to the Foro rich. If you live in a 'flamenco desert' like I do, it's a great place to just talk with other people who love flamenco.

Yeah there are some great foro members north of the border, who I'm sure will make themselves known. As you can see my name is Scottish (named after Ailsa Craig!).

thanks ailsa. Yeah I'm glad I found this forum, it's like hitting the jackpot. There is not much up here in the way of flamenco gigs etc., but once I have learned a wee bit more I will definately get on the train to any courses down south.

Yes my dad was from a farming family, but I was born and brought up in England. No-one ever knows how to say or spell my name in England, even tho it's quite short, and I've never met another Ailsa. Going to Scotland is such a relief, because people get my name right.[:)][:)]

Hi Rich,
Welcome to our Forum.
I'm near Stonehaven.
I think you'll learn a lot here.
If you are really very keen on 1 to 1 lessons, I can maybe do.
You'll need to be able to play chords and have maybe a bit of experience in some sort of fingerstyle guitar first otherwise it would be a waste of your time and money.
I'm not a "cool" modern player, but can teach you a lot of the basic building-blocks of Flamenco (as opposed to ultra high-speed picado.)

I know how you feel ailsa, my last name is Schuitema, nobody can pronounce that properly anywhere. To be honest , I only know one ailsa and I always thought it was an australian name, you must be right though.

Interesting post..
I understand re living in a flamenco desert (mostly just me and my teacher- though this may be changing), and the odd difficulty here of people pronouncing my scottish name correctly; you'd think it would be an easy one! I sympathize. ....and this forum is a great one...

Hemeolaman. I was born in Norway, my dads norwegian and my mother is scottish so I don't have a clan I'm afraid. Its rubbish because its a bit like I am not a "real" scot. On the plus side I can pick any tartan I like. I was over in america this year for a wedding and those american girls couldn't get enough of my kilt. never understood that! its a bloody skirt on a man! never mind, i wear it with pride [:D]

that is high! I can see by the expression on your face that you were really trying, lol. Did that poor sod underneath you get a knee in the face when you came down as the picture would suggest?

p.s. norwegian/scottish = scotegian or norwetish
scottish/irish = scrotish or irotish

as for jumping off the balcony, i did that once.....and only once lol. then i had to stay sitting or lying down for a week lol
