duende -> paco de lucia in uppsala. (Oct. 12 2007 7:27:55)

jejeje Mr.Magenta im sure you thought i wrote a rewiew[:D]

i thought maybe you could add your thoughts[:)]..since im not into writing a lot.

anyway.. I thought he played very good that evening. better than the Oslo consert.
First set was his usual rondeña warm-up where he didn´t quite nail the picados he plays at the end jejejeje

He went on with Antonia , and then i cant remeber so Magenta please tell if you remember. I think he did a buleria with cante of the cositas buenas album and then Alegrias, then mineras going into Fandangos, His usual 1st set im sure.[:D]

anyway He doesnt play everything perfect but its close enough to know that it was a good night, you should have heard his picados in the 2nd set, doing Paleque, zyryab,Entre dos aguas of course he did more tunes but i can´t remember. it was "the usual ones"

also there was a strange discovery. the man uses DELAY when he plays solos!!..or maybe he had a new soundman whos got the wrong effect program.

anyway Magenta take it away.

ps it was nice to meet you and your sister.

Sounds sweet Henrik [:)]
I remember in Oslo when Paco suddenly stopped in the middle of his alegrias falseta when he did a mistake. He does a lot of mistakes these days. There is that one video on youtube where he plays his minera/fandangos solo and completely messes the piece up. Buzzing notes everywhere and he actually stopped to tune his guitar at one point when it got too much out of tune...
Anyways. Somehow, i don't know why, i just always think "It's Paco. It doesn't matter". I guess it's after all the great things he has done that he can afford to make mistakes now that he has nothing more to prove.

I'm still jealous I couldn't see him again [:(]

Ah, I've forgotten some of the set by now. it was 6 pieces before the break, and something like 6 afterwards. The second half had the band doing their solos and for once i was inclined to dig the flute player, wow! he delivered the most inspired soloing imo, and i don't even like traverse flutes.. or so i thought.

the opening rondena was fabulous, imo. in pacos solo numbers i had to close my eyes and seep in. i don't know, perhaps the guy doesn't enjoy playing as much as he did sometime in his youth, but the enjoyment that is there was transparent and a pleasure to listen to. the sound was really excellent so the dynamics in his playing was brought out nicely. sure, he does some flashy picados and things, but for me the highlight is definitely his command, how the tones make sense.

montse and her co-singer sang well, but the mix felt a bit too wet with reverb and stuff for my taste, so i can't rally tell. the overall sound image was good though.

really good concert! steep price, but delivered the moneys worth.

ps Henrik.
Great to meet you too! I might be heading down to gbg in the beginning of next month. there is some kind of a folk music festival a friend of mine wants to see.

yes i think the sound was ok. but a bit "wet" with a full band the palmas got a bit unclear. for me where i sat, even paco was drowned by bass and percusion from time to time.

I have read a lot about Paco's concert, how he makes mistakes! Well, he is 60 years old, probably with less energy than 20 rears ago! After all, he is a great artist and he can afford to go on the stage without much practice and play good! And he can afford mistakes! I just don't know how often he does it, I mean find the concert from bienal de Malaga last month on youtube, its just perfect!
Last year in Belgrade, those who know his songs very good noticed it, for example he stops in the middle of picado, or maybe end it different! But all this is not such bad at all! What is good and interesting is that the concert is great and impressive, even if he mistakes! And some friends of mine who also were on the concert, and yet don't know much about his music, clearly said that they didn't notice neither one mistake in his playing! It mean something!

P.S. He will play in Belgrade in 3 days! Can't wait...
