Hola

I know that some of you play both electric and flamenco. I would like to buy an electric with a fingerboard wide enough for comfortable fingerpicking. Fenders are abut 43mm and flamencos often 54mm so there is a big difference.

PRS say they have an option of a "wide, fat neck" but I donĀ“t know what that means.

Any suggestions?

Sean

Sean,

If you like the feel of flamenco guitar, can you buy a built-in pickup flamenco guitar like Cordoba 55fce?

An electric guitar with a broad neck... that's easy:

Buy an electric six string bass guitar and put on guitar strings[:D]

To be serious, this one seems to have a broader neck:

Or you could go for a semi-acoustic.

This is not an option: nylon strings and steel strings are completely different.

Sean, you want to fingerpick a steel-string guitar? (ouch!) would it be for playing flamenco or otherwise, out of curiosity?

Also, while we're on the topic, is anyone familiar with electric guitars with nylon strings? Do they exist?

That's actually more common than fingerpicking on a nylon string guitar.

examples:

Chet Atkins
Tommy Emmanuel

"Godin" has got "electric guitars" with nylon strings... If you can call these electric guitar.

Hmm, it just sounds pretty painful (and bad for the nails if you play flamenco!), if you ask me. I remember a PdL interview where he said he got really drunk at some club he was playing, came up on stage and rocked out with his fingers on an electric guitar and bloodied his fingers up [:D]

A tough one - they aren't made for picking that easy. A slide or a resonator (with a pick-up)? I would go for a Les Paul but humbuckers are a bit dirty for picking. Strat, maybe?

well you could have a luthier build you one. or buy a 7 string neck and 7 string body, cut your own 6 string nut and make a modified bridge.......... that'd be the easiest.
