Thinking about restriunging it so that it tunes lie a guitar, i.e. make it easier to get my head around

duende -> RE: Just got my hands in an OUd (Sep. 23 2007 13:57:00)

im thinking about putting normal nylon strings on my oud, and not use double strings.
it´s a crapy oud with 5 strings. im thinking it will still keep it´s arabic sound without the double strings

Tunings are not the problem, it's just that there are many of them. Try re-stringing the thing!!!!

Check out this web site-it'll have you sounding like a middle easterner in a few hours[:D]
I got an oud to record some lines with, but it turns out that the music these guys play is deep. I learned a few maqams, then looked at the clock and hours had gone by.............You could fall off the side of the pool and forget about flamenco real quick. Heavy stuff requiring lots of learning. All new scales-just tons of them, and of course new tunings.

Be careful -this is dangerous!
