Arash -> RE: Manolo Franco Interview now up (Sep. 14 2007 21:11:18)

Thanks!
A long and interesting interview.
I like Manolo.

This Giralldilo del Toque competition in 1984 must have been the hardest ever and he won the first price!

1) Because of the jury (Paco, Manolo, etc.)
2) The participants - all SuperB guitarists (Tomatito, Rafael Riqueni, etc.)
3) they had to be the best in 3 different categories (solo, with cante, with baile) and not only solo guitar!
puuhh

Ricardo -> RE: Manolo Franco Interview now up (Sep. 14 2007 21:38:32)

Cool thanks. I did not know he beat Tomatito. Probably what put him over the edge was his cante accomp. which is really exciting to watch live. I was never into his solos much, but he is good.

@Errol...Emerica.[:D]

Actually, Ricardo.... what put Manolo over the edge was that Tomatito was selected to play a guajiras and was not able to. He was disqualified. Besides the fact that Manolo is a monster guitarist.... and a very complete one.

Un saludo, Errol

P.S. What are we going to do a interview with you...[:D]

Oh ok, that makes sense then. I did not realize they put you on the spot like that! Franco is a master of guajiras for sure. Maybe then it was just luck that helped him win? If they asked Tomate to play bulerias or alegrias, he would have owned those guys.

Yeah, Perhaps Tomate would have dominated with his bulerias...... but one has to be a well rounded guitarist [;)]

Ha! Ha!

Errol
