Hah! I get it!

koella -> RE: For those who miss Flamenco threads (Is this a flamenco forum?) (Aug. 25 2007 18:51:51)

Is this a flamencoforum ? .[8|]

I'm speaking only for myself.[&:]
But I was recently on a stamp collectors forum. And also on a forum run by a community of knitting people.[X(]
Though they where both very exciting with very wild people, I discovered very little flamenco there.
I tried some questions about Paco or cracks in guitars. But soon the conversation would go back to needles or "that one, exclusive stamp" from a long gone African emperor.[:-]

So I think that from all these forums, "foroflamenco"is definitely the most flamenco.
Not always a flamenco forum, but it has it's moments.

Duh....[&:]

I was on a plumbing forum and someone asked for advice on how to fix a leaky pipe. Many people talked about simply learning to 'feel the water' others about having a 'communion with the pipe'. I suggested turning off the main valve and replacing the pipe in question with a new piece ( the advisee had mentioned that the bandages he had been applying over a period of years were really quite rotten now. This was greeted with some stiffness. However when I foolishly started about the nuts and bolts of the situation how they fit together and how to go about the job of repair I was told in no uncertain terms that I was not a real plumber but in fact a plumbing anorak and that my input was not welcome.

This struck me as strange since it was quite clear from the questions they were asking that many had a great deal of leaking pipes. Surely this would nessecitate the wearing of an anorak even in the bedroom or at the computer....

Go figure !!!

Yours

D. [8|]

PS you should have heard them when I talked about my dark past in upholstery.[&:]

koella -> RE: For those who miss Flamenco threads (Is this a flamenco forum?) (Aug. 25 2007 20:39:29)

You were really on a plumbing forum ? Do they really exsist ? Oh.. Jeez.
Well, I guess you would make a brilliant plumber..[:D]

But I made a joke man. I mean, I would'nt want to be found dead near something like a stamp collector's forum. [;)]

Ron.M -> RE: For those who miss Flamenco threads (Is this a flamenco forum?) (Aug. 25 2007 21:32:21)

Lots of criticism about the forum in the past few days.

Don't forget, apart from the jibe, a lot of members know what they are talking about when it comes to Flamenco... Flamenco guitar technique... Flamenco guitar construction. (Jeez...PdL has even commisioned a guitar from our own Stephen Hill...)

ToddK is one of the most innovative guitar players on the planet IMO.

Ricardo is an ace player with bags of knowledge, not just from books and CD's, but through his annual association with Gerardo Nuñez's school in Andalucia.
And a hundred other great player/aficionados.

This is the forum for anyone seriously interested in Flamenco.
That's for sure.
No **** and will truly sober you up if you think that playing "Entre Dos Aguas" plus an out of compás Soleares makes you a Flamenco guitarist.

I'm personally really proud how this forum has turned out.
I think the standard is really high and worthy of respect.
When it's at it's best, I doubt if the very best players on the planet could critisise it.
And I bet they read it too!

cheers,

Ron

koella -> RE: For those who miss Flamenco threads (Is this a flamenco forum?) (Aug. 25 2007 21:55:36)

Sorry Ron. I was just joking.
Of course the forum is good as usual. Concerning me, the critsism ( how do you spell that word ? ) is more on a personal level. It stands on two legs: On one hand I can't unite with certain new members. On the other hand history repeats itself. Same questions, same Todd-pick discussion ([:D]) etc.
That's why I decided to back off a little for a while. And that's what I try. But not always with succes. [:D]

Ailsa -> RE: For those who miss Flamenco threads (Is this a flamenco forum?) (Aug. 25 2007 22:02:07)

Hi Ron,

I agree that the Forum is fab. I guess I worry a bit because, you may have noticed, I like a joke, almost as much as I like flamenco. I don't want to p off the foro members who want to be serious - because I do too a lot of the time. Just can't hold back on the occasional little quip......[&:][&:]

gato -> RE: For those who miss Flamenco threads (Is this a flamenco forum?) (Aug. 25 2007 22:05:00)

The Foro is definitely a flamenco forum, but it's up to the participants to whether or not it is exactly or loosely about flamenco, or if it breaks up into humorous displays on the Internet, or even brazen arguements, disagrements and the like. That's what makes it the Foro, and you have to expect that. When I first went on I didn't know that, and now I find it's an expected common ground. I have learned a lot. It's really up to the members to make it what it is; the web site is just the media tool; we make the forum what it is, so it's really a question about us and our willingness to achieve a forum standard or not. And that's it, you never know who is going to respond or how. Yet, we all have one thing in common, and that's flamenco.

Gary

koella -> RE: For those who miss Flamenco threads (Is this a flamenco forum?) (Aug. 25 2007 22:41:02)

Hey Gato and Ailsa, I agree with you.
Everything that's here, belongs here. Especially the humour and arguing. [8D]

We're not gitano's. And if we were we would be partying, drinking and enjoy everything that God forbids, instead of analysing flamenco to death. So let's try to at least get to that level in a virtual way, and do a little analysing on the way.[:D]

gato -> RE: For those who miss Flamenco threads (Is this a flamenco forum?) (Aug. 25 2007 23:08:28)

Hi Koella, I would suffice to say that we are all human, and we do what we do, and this forum lets us be who we are, (as long as we follow the rules that we agreed to when we signed up). That's all we can expect, and that's why we like the Foro. Otherwise we would be somewhere else. But I can see Kevin's point. It seems that he wants to talk flamenco, and that is a great idea too! It's all good....This is the place to talk flamenco. So what d' ya say people! Of course, I want to hear some more opinions about this thread until we get tired of it and then trash it with humor!! Or just let it linger, though I don't know what is better.....

Gary

Ricardo -> RE: For those who miss Flamenco threads (Is this a flamenco forum?) (Aug. 25 2007 23:28:10)

quote:

we make the forum what it is,

Exactly what I was going to say. So if you dont' like where the forum is going, it is up to YOU to do something about it. That simple.

quote:

And if we were we would be partying, drinking and enjoy everything that God forbids, instead of analysing flamenco to death.
Maybe not EVERYTHING god forbids, but I enjoy doing both literally everyday. But I know I am weird. I like to analize the party and drinking. [:D]

Ricardo

koella -> RE: For those who miss Flamenco threads (Is this a flamenco forum?) (Aug. 25 2007 23:41:43)

Gato, "trash with humour"?

Should I have said: "Ah come on Romerito, get lost with your ridiculous post about flamenco threads. Join a philosophical community or something. I do what I like to do, In real life and especially on a forum. So if you want serious posts, post them! And for, christ sake, if noone wants to read them you can always read them yourself and enjoy your own SERIOUS posts."

But that sounds a bit harsh.[:D] So I wrap it up with some friendly, nitwit story to make my point. I'm not trashing it with humour.

Some people can understand that, others come up with a plumbing story to prove they didn't get the point[;)]

Yeah, perhaps Koella, but 'trash with humor' was what I came up with at the time! But, it does happen, where people get into humor with disregard for the seriousness at hand! Semantics.....Oh well, that's how I say it but I mean in a freindly manner. We're all friends, aren't we??? But, to think of it, 'sounds bad but I meant in a humorous way (I should consider using smileys, but that's not my writing style). Like, I said, it's all good! I learned my lesson though, about writing serious posts. Total disregard. I mean you're right, it's pretty lonely....

Gary

koella -> RE: For those who miss Flamenco threads (Is this a flamenco forum?) (Aug. 26 2007 9:04:17)

Hi Dominic. Sorry, I painted for weeks during the holidays. I'm still recovering from that. So my playing is very bad at the moment.

Gato.

Of course there should be serious posts, like Todd's falseta lesson or ehm..well, other serious posts.[&:]
It must be very frustrating for newbie's when they think they have something interesting to ask, and they are totally neglected by old members because it's the 10th time the question is posted. Well of course it happened to me also, when I came here two years ago. But I learned that you get attention when you trash your .......Oops[8D]

Btw. I strongly disagree with the fact that we are all friends here. Of course we can all become friends, but it has to come both ways. I think being yourself without posing has a lot to do with that. And also accepting each others reason to be here.
I think humour is the glue that melts the big, bad world together. I'm sorry, can't help myself. Or Simon has to throw me out.[>:]

Ailsa -> RE: For those who miss Flamenco threads (Is this a flamenco forum?) (Aug. 26 2007 9:48:05)

Wow this one could run and run - how many pages do you think we can get it to guys?[:D][:D]

Well it's a big Foro and room for all types. What brings us together is that we all love flamenco. If.... no WHEN we meet in Andalucia next year we'll talk loads about flamenco. AND we'll talk about other stuff too. That's OK no?

So......if you see a desperately serious post but you feel in the mood for some fun, just don't open it. Come back to it later. Same if you really want to learn about flamenco and you see a post about fruit and veg (sorry Hemeolaman. Though I forgot mangos - they are delicious no?) just don't open it!

Now the business about noobs asking the same question for the millionth time is more tricky. My first question on the Foro was one of those. I did get a reply (thank you Bash!), but I didn't get a single 'welcome to the Foro'!![:(][:(][:(]

C'mon guys, where's my welcome? It'll only be FOUR MONTHS late, but I'll still accept it! [;)][;)][:D][:D][:D]

Matic -> RE: For those who miss Flamenco threads (Is this a flamenco forum?) (Aug. 26 2007 10:08:04)

Welcome to the Foro Ailsa!!![:D] Feel free to participate any time!
I hope you will enjoy it.

Florian -> RE: For those who miss Flamenco threads (Is this a flamenco forum?) (Aug. 26 2007 10:24:07)

lol welcome to the foro [:D]

as for the thread topic, i really apreciate people who arent scared to be themselfs as long as they not ****s [:D] but even that can be funny if done with grace and if u know when to stop [:D]
i love nothing more than seeing a litlle bit of someone come out trough his posts.

its simple... u want flamenco , talk flamenco, if u wanna be playfull in your replie be playfull ( so what [:D] get over it, its not life or death a internet forum is just entertainment) , if u wanna talk audio talk audio, theres plenty of personalities, moods, different people, so whatever u feel like u never alone theres always someone that feels that same as you and will get involved in your conversation.

as long as u not abusing anyone i dont see any problem with beeing yourself, whatever that may be serious or playfull.

just dont tell others how to be or get upset because someone reacts and responds differently to you.

the world is made up of all kinds of personallities

guitardode -> RE: For those who miss Flamenco threads (Is this a flamenco forum?) (Aug. 26 2007 10:59:54)

agree with this ! flamenco is a rare beautiful art- to share its mysterys is a priveledge to us -we are all in the same boat on this forum its a great site

Stu -> RE: For those who miss Flamenco threads (Is this a flamenco forum?) (Aug. 26 2007 13:22:15)

Hey, I don't see the problem, I'm fairly new hear so maybe I haven't been here long enough to witness the changes. but simply scrolling down the general discussions forum page it looks pretty flamenco to me. Talk of Paco Pena, PDL, Sevillanas, Folk vs Flamenco, Rasguados, Flamenco in various cities, Palmas DVD, Andalucia, Flamenco Albums etc.

What is it that people are missing?
Fair enough here has been a rise in spoof/comedy and some almost pointless threads but as people have said, ignore those.

Hey Romerito, so you started this thread to get a rise out of a few peeps.
Now this thread has turned into the very thing it was trying to irradicate.

As for the noob prob of asking the same question again, senior members shouldnt complain! (not that they are right now) They were there once or have been there on a different forum. Also, its pretty tough scouring any forum for a question that may or may not have been answered 5 years ago, then if you do find it, opinions/solutions may have changed. Also how many question can there possibly be?? if we never asked the same question twice surely the forum would decend into comedy/spoof, non flamenco threads........[&:] Er hang on!..

Georg -> RE: For those who miss Flamenco threads (Is this a flamenco forum?) (Aug. 26 2007 15:37:19)

Perhaps I have misinterpreted Romeritos post, but I think that he wanted to make a joke. So there's nothing to worry about.

Apart from that, I don't know any other forum where the members are so helpful and friendly like this one and others of you have said the same. I think this is something we can be proud of.

And for the joking:

quote:

Jesus:

He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone.

gato -> RE: For those who miss Flamenco threads (Is this a flamenco forum?) (Aug. 26 2007 18:51:51)

Koella, of course I don't assume or even think we're all friends here just because we're here; again my sarcasm and humor! I've got to consider using smileys. Well anyway, you're right, humor is the bond that smoothes out the rough edges. As for posting a thread, I've decided to give it a while, and then maybe. I've been here for two months or so, and I must say, it takes a while to learn what you can and cannot say. People have to see that you are acceptable, and of course you have to be paitent with it. As for being new here, I have no regrets.

Gary

Ron.M -> RE: For those who miss Flamenco threads (Is this a flamenco forum?) (Aug. 26 2007 22:25:17)

I think you guys have too much spare time on your hands.[:D]
As for the joking...I love it myself, unless it gets too vulgar or self-indulgant.
What I was trying to say is that, apart from the jokes we are the most critical and informative Flamenco website on the Internet.
This is a hard site to upload something to in an arrogant "look at me" attitude, unless you are really good.
Too many knowledgeable people here....
Beginners who are genuinely playing the best of their knowledge IMO get heaps of help and are handled gently as far as I can see.

It's always a bad move to start naming names, 'cos as sure as hell you're gonna leave out some people.
So as well as ToddK and Ricardo, you've got Grisha (probably the best Flamenco picado player on the planet next to PdL)
And Jason, who is a superb player and gives a lot of his time and effort to reply to folk.
Callioglu...from Turkey...another great player.

Where do you stop? [:D]

So if you want to learn Flamenco guitar....
Where else are you gonna go?

Personally I loved some Siguiriyas falsetas uploaded by Phil (de Cadiz) a few years ago.
I'd like to hear more of that sort of stuff myself.

cheers,

Ron

koella -> RE: For those who miss Flamenco threads (Is this a flamenco forum?) (Aug. 26 2007 22:31:42)

Hi Gato.
I think your doing great. You're modest, you have an open mind, and you have a good sense of humour ( be it somehow difficult to sense it without smilies )

So, as far as I'm concerned, you can make some serious posts now. [:D]

Florian -> RE: For those who miss Flamenco threads (Is this a flamenco forum?) (Aug. 26 2007 22:53:48)

[:D] its gonna be a litlle hard since all i do is self indulgant and vulgar , if its not about me or i am not in it .. i dont care [&:]

as for the level of guitarring, i feel privileged and lucky to be among u all.
