Is there a particular Headstock tuner slot width/shape that is best to use?

I'm looking at the Reyes plan which shows a slot width of 1/2"(12mm). There is also a chamfer around this slot. Won't the D and G strings be a bit close(if not touch) to the centre section of the headstock, or does the chamfer take care of this?

mimf.org might be the place for that one, very useful forum. lots of th big time luthiers hang out there. not that we don't have some excellent luhiers here, in fact we are blessed to have some superexcellent and helpful ones =) ,but the guys you hear about in legends and myths and fairytales are hangin out at mimf lol

I don't have that plan but 12 mm sounds very close and the Reyes guitars I have seen have had more like 15-16 mm as the rest of us.

I am just finishing a Reyes style guitar. I made the string slots 14mm with a 2mm chamfer around them. The edges are 10mm. The angle of the head taper is not so much so the strings shouldnt bite on the edges.
Do a working drawing to make sure and also get the head angle right.
