Frequently modern day luthiers will use the phrase: made in the style of: (Barbero, Santos, Esteso...etc. etc.). Given most of us will never hear these guitars live in a setting similiar to a living room, my question is: What does a typical Barbero, Santos, Esteso sound like--with respect to the trebles? the basses? the overall sound?

Words are inadequate, recordings depend on the player and the environment, guitars by the same builder vary, ...

In other words, an unanswerable question.

BUTTT, the closest I know of to an answer is

http://www.flamencoguitar.net/SoundGallery.htm

Cheers,
Norman

Hey Norman, cool site. Maybe my question would be a good one for luthiers--how do they build "in the style of" vs a replica vs "inspired by".

"In the style of" can often mean the same as "inspired by". The builder might use the plantilla(shape) of say a Barbero with one of his bracing patterns but modify it slightly to his liking. Maybe he'll tighten up the treble side or make the braces thinner or thicker than what they actually are on the plans.

This is just a small portion of what this whole "in the style of" can mean.
