Unwilling 3th finger (Full Version)

This is the second time I write this, the first disappeared magicaly....

I was trying to play a bit of Sabicas, La Trinidad.

With this fingersetting it's almost imposible for me to play the first fret on the high E string with my index finger, I cant reach it unless I play with the side of my finger. Then there is the low E with the third finger on the 4th fret, almost imposible.... PFFFFFF

Is it just me having difficulties or where you all born with flexable rubber fingers capable to stretch and twist a little if needed?

Don't worry about what you are to look like, the side of the finger is fine. As far as the stretch the more you play, the more limber and stronger the muscles in your hand will become, and you will find it alot easier, just keep playing; keep it up and be paitent. It's a matter of time and practice, and dedication. Some day you will probably be able to do it......

I use heavy strings with tight strings and a guitar that can hold the tension to build and keep my abilities, and it's a sacrifice. That and exericses and drills can really be of great help, in conditioning your muscles. Perform and rehearse on a performance grade guitar with performance strings. I find it ideal.

right...but also you might want to check the way you hold your wrist, maybe it could move forwards just a little bit more and it'll be easier...

Put the capo on a higher fret until it becomes easier.

there are a few approaches to this but all involve the "perfect" wrist position so make sure you're at a good angle and that can make all the difference.

As un-flamenco as it may be, I would play this with the middle and ring fingers holding the notes on the B and G strings, the index playing between the high E string and D string, and the little finger free to play that 4th fret on the low E. It's just a more natural position and unless other falsettas require you to be in the recommended position it doesn't make a bit of difference. I don't feel guilty breaking the rules if it works! LOL

And a capo on the second fret could help but any higher than that and you might be giving yourself cramps from playing in a very tight hand position.

Whichever approach you take just practice it slow and it will become natural with time!

Check where you thumb is behind the neck, it should be in the middle, and your elbow should be in towards your ribs. Personally, this one was not really tough to me, but there are some that are almost impossible for me with smaller hands.

My capo seems to have legs or something but when I find it again I will try for sure [&:] I tried to move my wrist and placed my thumb on the right spot but I will need to practice to get the third finger up to the low E

@Ricardo, if this is not so hard, can you give me a example of a chord that you find difficult to play? It is not that I dont belive that this is easy for you, I am just curious [:-]

When I read things about Sabicas on this forum and on other websites people say that it is relative easy stuff to play and he played all his music within 4 frets. But on every tab I see there are plenty of difficult chords and I wonder how he could play that with those short thick fingers he had.

Anyway, I should practice more thats for sure!

I will tab out an exercise for you here later tonight, that really helps with stretches.

Sabicas is not easy by the way.

Have fun with that. Bulerias compas if you want. Let the bass notes ring as long as possible. No capo. Repeat each line if you want.
