I'd like to try it but the price seems a bit hefty! $333?? is that alot? or am I just cheap?

bernd -> RE: Flamenco metronome (Aug. 1 2007 13:54:19)

I never would pay such price for a metronome.

Kate -> RE: Flamenco metronome (Aug. 1 2007 14:21:06)

I did not see the price. I agree that's way too much. They are heavily promoting it though . I already recieved at least 6 emails telling me about it this morning.

Kate,

Try compas-flamenco.com The cost is about 40 Euros. When you pull up the site, you will note a 30 day "trial" period. This may be what you are seeking.

JBASHORUN -> RE: Flamenco metronome (Aug. 1 2007 14:45:31)

Its only 245 Euros at Flamenco-World. But even this is too much. Maybe its all going into Herrero's pockets? [8|]

I checked this out once and it seemed pretty good to me. Unfortunately they don't have a release for Mac, so I went with the one from graf-martinez instead ( http://www.graf-martinez.com/flamenco-metronome.html). In general, it's usable and has been helpful to me. I don't like certain things about it - it's organized by beat cycle rather than form, and also it does a few stupid unintuitive things with the interface.

There are also CDs of flamenco rhythms - just tracks of repetitive handclapping patterns - which my guitar teacher has shown me a few times. I don't have the name handy but I can find out. Or maybe someone here knows?

Kate -> RE: Flamenco metronome (Aug. 1 2007 16:32:13)

Well that's certainly cheaper and nice you get a free trial but I 'm not buying. I'm surrounded by compás, it blows in the breeze here where I live. Hard to get away from it really and I get lots of chance to practise. I have some great teachers, one the other day was about two tears old !!! Its pretty wild being laughed at by a two year old when you mess up !

I was curous about the metronome as I was being bombraded with adverts for it.

This idea seems to be really good particularly for guitarists not in Andalucia but in other countries where compas tuition is not easily had .The price may seem high but if it helps your playing and composing can you put a price on that? Lessons in Flamenco are also expensive and not easily obtained its good that oscar has taken the bull by the horns and tried to modernise this difficult art into a more understandable form (bet you will be looking at a laptop or computer yourself) Many guitarists on this site sing praises of guitars which are very highly priced but probably struggle with compas(yes me )many guitarists also cannot learn at the source itself and will settle for the next best thing and so this gadget could give a helping hand

Its not a NEW idea. There have been various attempts at this sort of thing in the past. I believe Ron's Flamenco-Master software was once available as a portable unit, and also the Mundobeat metronome:

http://www.vko.com/

Note the price... just over $100. Personally, I feel that the Oscar Herrero metronome ISN'T worth much more than that... its probably just because its bears OH's name that its so expensive.

But you're right... if it helps you learn/maintain compas then its probably worth having (if you can afford it).

I think it is funny that there needs to be a special "flamenco" metronome. I mean a regular metronome works for ALL MUSIC.[:D][:D]

They should make a "Paco de lucia Metronome Pro extra MAESTRO model" or something.[;)]

Good (money-making) idea...one that goes faster than 208! [;)]

John O. -> RE: Flamenco metronome (Aug. 1 2007 20:55:48)

My flamenco metronome helps me check whether I'm playing complex, syncopated falsetas in compás without the headache of counting writing every little bit down. I have the CompasPro from Graf-Martinez, it's a good one too, and not too expensive.

zenguitar -> RE: Flamenco metronome (Dec. 24 2007 5:38:59)

Has anyone overcome Windows Vista to use the Graf-Martinez metronome? I am on a dell inspiron , and the "compatibility with xp" fix doesn't work. I think it may have something to do with the sound software on this machine.
I have updated Quicktime, so thats not it-

Of course, costs about $150. But BOSS is great.

Yeah, but more than keeping time for you, and giving soniquete, you can plug in to a PA and crank it, and you have a new well trained BAND MEMBER, that never messes up![:D][:D]

I can't tell you how often I have been tempted to bring my drum machine to the Dance company rehearsal. [;)] Saves time and no arguements about who is speeding up or not.

zenguitar -> RE: Flamenco metronome (Dec. 24 2007 20:01:54)

How do you use a drum machine to help with the finer accents in compas? (1,2,THREE,4,5,SIX,7,EIGHT,etc)

zenguitar -> RE: Flamenco metronome (Dec. 25 2007 3:53:19)

Now I understand why it is so expensive-that is a drum machine

Bogdan1980 -> RE: Flamenco metronome (Dec. 25 2007 3:54:43)

Why would you price the metronome like this? It's a ridiculous amount of money for a product that's easily substituted.
