Can someone define this palos for me? I read some where that it has no fixed structure and is used to put babies to sleep!!! but can anyone tell me what keys its usually in or not in etc also any specific nana suggestions you like would be great. Stu

Nana is Spanish for "lullaby". In a flamenco context I can only think of two, both are very different so I don't know what the standard way of doing it is, if there is one. One of them is Ines Bacan with Pedro Bacan on guitar, I can't remember the name of the album, the key is Em/B phryg. and the rhythm basically like a slow waltz. The other is the last song on "Me voy contigo" (Remedios Amaya), which is done palo seco and in free time. - Aloysius

Hey Stu, My guitar teacher has just lent me some old discs to listen to. One of them is by Manuel Gerena and has a track on it called Nana del Despertar. Haven't had a chance to listen yet but I'll let you know what it's like. A

Wow thanks guys. I thought my thread was gonna dissapear without a reply. I'm working now but will check out those links and names/tunes etc later on. The song thats sparked my interest is Yerma on Nunezs album which I've been trying to get the tab for for ages but it doesnt seem to exist, I decided to try and transcribe it. However that album has alot of diff tunings and needed to know if nanas were traditional in E or D or something else? perhaps the songs suggested above will help me get started. stu
