One thing I noticed from the pics - girls. Were there any on the course?

PS no I take it back - I found two girls in one of the pics! But were they on the guitar course too?

Not to be sexist, but since you brought it up, usually 97-100% of the dance class is female and the same % of the guitar class is male. The cante and Cajon class is usually mixed more evenly, I guess more males in general. Some years the dance class is much bigger, but this year it seemed a bit smaller. In years past there have been 2-3 female guitar students. So there were lots of girls in the course and hanging out in the juergas (people from the town) but in the words of one french single friend "zis year was like.....sausage party???". [:D][:D] So for girls looking to meet sexy macho guitar players, this was certainly the place!

Here are some of the few pics I found with girls.

Hey Pimiento, good to see you hear, and thanks for the audio clip you mailed me!

Pimientito -> RE: To those who were at the Curso Flamenco... (Jul. 30 2007 16:02:55)

Hey Ricardo
Just trying to sort out the varius soundbites from this year. There is a lot of stuff.
It is seriously hot in Granda now. I am sitting with a jar of sangria watching a movie and trying not to move in ....45 degrees C (dont know what that is in F) of heat outside. Not much to do till sunset!!
Thanks for all the photos. have you got any more clips of that 7 year old kid doing buleria?

Tom uses Photo$hop, but there's a free program available that does the same stuff:

GIMP is the GNU Image Manipulation Program.

Just go to the column on the left and choose GIMP for Windows or MAC, as appropriate. Be sure to read the first of the FAQ, as you need to download two things.

And thanks for the photos!

Conrad -> RE: To those who were at the Curso Flamenco... (Jul. 31 2007 7:34:41)

Thanks for the pictures!! You guys must have been pretty blissed out... I would have loved to see Arcangel, Cortes, Moraito, etc... Did Arcangel sing? And what about Gerardo? Did he leak any new material?

How fortunate for you that all these great musicians came by that very week... And Guadiana and other guitarists last year. Gerardo always looks like an example of humility. So is Gerardo a super respected guy or are these musicians just in town by coincidence, or both? In the case of Manolo I guess that's where he lives and teaches, too. Very cool...

Pimientito -> RE: To those who were at the Curso Flamenco... (Jul. 31 2007 11:20:45)

Henry!!! Thank you so much for those photos. I am so glad you had your camera with you[:D] I didnt think I would be meeting manolo sanlucar that night!
Hi conrad, Arcangel did sing that night but only at about 5.30 in in the morning. Many of us like ricardo and myself had gone to the hotel to catch a few hours sleep and missed it. Although Gerardo often gets people turning up at the course as friends or as guest artists (last year we saw Nana de jerez) These guys just happened to be in concert in sanlucar that night. Some of the students snuck out of the course early and saw the whole concert. They turned up at a local bar afterwards.
On the subject of sleep, surviving the Gerardo course is worthy of the certificate you get at the end. After a week of 3-4 hours sleep per night followed by the most difficult guitar lessons in the world at 10 in the morning in baking heat with a hang over, one can be forgiven for missing arcangel at 5.30 in the morning on the final day

flamencoguru -> RE: To those who were at the Curso Flamenco... (Jul. 31 2007 12:34:10)

Yeah, I think Pimientito is right. It's pretty rough working on 4 hours of sleep for 7 days. Gerardo is totally cool. He asked me..... "Did you get some rest?" I said, " sleep is overrated.... I'll sleep next week".

It's a great course and it's totally worth it, not necessarily for the class (which it great) but for the great people you'll meet.

By the way, Ricardo and Ramin did stick it out until 7:30am to see Arcangel sing. It was quite a treat.

Un saludo, Errol

jsierles -> RE: To those who were at the Curso Flamenco... (Aug. 1 2007 16:38:02)

Hey guys, this is Joshua who was also at the course. I don't usually post here but here goes.

Some of my pics are posted at:

http://flickr.com/photos/jsierles/sets/72157600967264633/

Check back there for some updated ones. Also, if you all would like to have all the pictures stored up there permanently, send them to me or authorize me to copy them and I'll put them up. The nice thing about having them on that site is the ability to create slideshows and such.

It was lovely meeting all of you. Thanks for some good times and hope to see you next year.

Also, to those of you who I mentioned the 'letras site' to, I will be posting about that soon, as it's almost ready. So keep your eyes peeled.

John O. -> RE: To those who were at the Curso Flamenco... (Aug. 1 2007 19:38:13)

Josh, great to see you on here! Do come around to say hi every once and a while!

It was great meeting you, I hope to see you there next year. Looking forward to the letras site!

Mark, happy to see you on here too! When we met I actually mixed you up with another Mark that does post on here sometimes [:D], didn't know you'd be new to the forum.

Later,
John
