I'm the stupid one.

Don't know how to start.
...What does a tocaor have to know to accompany baile?
I know there are some strict rules which have to be followed.
How would you explain the stupid one what a llamada, escobilla, remate etc. are?
I hope you know what I mean...

If this has all been said here don't be affraid to throw a stone at me. Not too big one.

[:D] Here you go... just search a bit!

quote:

As applied to dance accompaniment:

Compas-play rhythm guitar, give the tempo feel etc., no falsetas (melodies), just chordal strumming.

Entrada-introduction. Can be compas (rhythmic strumming), falseta, singer's warm up (tiritir tran, le le, ay ay, etc) or any number of prepared intros, free or rhythmic.

Llamada-call or signal a change of sections. It is a specific rhythmic signal the dancer gives to everyone, it is nice to play a special sequence of chords that helps the change sound natural. It can be to call in the singer for the letra. A change of section could be there will be a rhythmic stop (remate/corte) or a change of tempo. Sometimes you are changing speed or "gears" during the llamada, and that is the point of it. Sometimes the llamada precedes a build up, speed up, footworks step, and usually an other llamada will end such a build up.

Letra-the verse of cante, like solea, siguiriyas, tientos, tangos, bulerias, alegrias, etc.

Copla-the verse of cante for the not so deep flamenco palo, like sevillanas or fandango de huelva.

Escobilla- the footwork section of the dance. The name comes from the "sweeping" motion of some dance steps, but it applies to any extended footwork.

Apagado- playing rhythm or "drumming" on muted strings to give percussion. You would use this also for "palo seco" (acapella singing) and sometimes "solo de pies" (footwork solo with no music). During a solo de pies I might play llamadas, remates, cortes, etc, with chords and rhythm, then return to "apagado" strumming. Some dancers don't use the term apagado and say instead "palo seco" or something "seca", and other terms that make sense refering to a "dry" muted guitar.

Lots more stuff, do a search for "flamenco terminology". Don't you have any flamenco related books? There is usually a glossary.

Ricardo

I feel kind of...

besides terminology and compas you wont really learn how to do it here, you need to be around a dancer so that they can give you visual explonations.

if you can find a beginner dance class even better because they have to go slow and explain it to the students, so you get to practice it alot.

quote:

I know there are some strict rules which have to be followed.

not really, there are rules but i ouldnt call em that strict, they are no different to what you allready do playing flamenco guitar, compas, structure, make sure that what you play suits the dance etc

best way to prepare just listen to the Solo compas cds solos, they have everything, escobilla, llamada etc.

listen to them non stop and even try to play along, then all you have to do is match what you see in the dance class to the rythm you allready have in your head from the Compas cds.

Oh just realised .. I just assume that there are dance schools in every city in the world, are there schools in Eslovenia ? and isnt it Slovenia ?[8|]... thats embarrasing for you [:D].... mispelled your own country's name [:D]...[8|]

Matic -> RE: >>rules for accompanying<< (Jul. 23 2007 17:18:44)

[:D][:D]

Yes, what a shame. How dare I!
(It's just in Spanish Flo, calm down...that's how tomate would call it...[;)])
...in fact it is Slovenija in my language.[8|]

...so...

There aren't flamenco dance schools in every city unfortunately, but there is one (or two) in capital of Slovenia. I am going there next year to study and to look for some pretty bailaoras... but I can't wait for one year so I thought I cold learn something now already so those cute bailaoras would go 'wow, look at him!'...know what I mean?
[;)][:D]

Anyway thanks for the help and tips... atm I'm confused because of so many information from that copmplex world of flamenco... but i believe that's how it goes and even that hurricane in my head will calm down...

I have solo compas series and also El baile flamenco series...so I will continue study them.

Thanks Mr. Flo!

Matic,

Tudi on me je "snubil" ampak.....

Kakorkoli že, v nekaj letih bo flamenko precej popularen. Tako kot je Piazzolla danes. Tako, da ne bo problema.

Luka

Aha, pa še v Mariboru je ena. Ime ji je Ana Pandur.

Luka zdravo!

Zadnje čase me ravno spremljava v flamenku privlači.

Spraševala me je kakšen mesec nazaj.
