Bulerias Dance Acompaniment? (Full Version)

I'm just beginning to grasp Bulerias on guitar when a local dance studio calls and wants me to play a simple Bulerias at slow to moderate tempo for now so the dance class can get a feel for it. I explain that I myself am just beginning to grasp Bulerias on guitar and she says "thats perfect, we all learn together!" HELP! They want a simple, rhythm based Bulerias that I can repeat at varying tempos. So far I have three falsetas that I can do this with, two of which I am confident of, the 3rd may be a little shaky, and/or not rhythmic enough. I am at once looking forward to this and fearing it, any suggestions(other than I should start drinking heavily?),

forghet the falsetas for now, just paractice your rythm very strongly with compas. ( chances are besides a intro, u will not get to do falsetas)

instead of falsetas , practice different chord progresions etc. the buleria cante chords.

they are not really interested in falsetas, they are more interested on a steady clear rhytm.

Sorry guys that practice loads of interesting falsetas - Flo is absolutely right. Sometimes if the guitarist starts doing a falseta I have to count to keep compas (as opposed to just feeling it).

Think his suggestion of variety through different chords, but keeping the same rhythm is a good one.

good advice! just keep it simple but above all get the feel for this most energetic of the forms (no it will not be easy)but the more you practice the more you will learn its good to have a dancer willing to share the burden go for it!!

I have learned something already, the 3 falsetas I referred to are really just two rhythm passages and one falseta. What do you call these rhythm passages then? They each go through 2 counts of 12 beats and are completely played as chords and golpe, which I think is what they want. I can repeat these at any speed but fear they will start sounding too repetative pretty quickly. The falseta I mentioned is definitely the wrong thing to play for this because it relies on longer single note runs with no golpe or strumming to support the rhythm. If I get a chance I might record a short mp3 of what I've got later, thanks so far,

ps and at the risk of just repeating what Florian and Ailsa said - yes, just go for clear compas at this stage and don't forget to watch the dancers. (Some guitarists who don't have as much experience with a dance class seem to forget this.) That way, you will start being able to recognise when they are going to do a llamada etc.

Jim, the teacher will convey the rhythm she is trying to teach the dancers, so work with her, eaven if you have never thought to play something she wants or have never even heard, and just let it be. In the end you will be glad you did. What a great experiance!
