I was trying to help my little girl get enthused about her "O" grade Spanish by telling her that it was not just a case of translating the words but a language is a complete culture. She was very charmed by this example (Tangos by Camaron) My Spanish is not great but this is how I hear it.... Ay que bonitas estan las flores En alegre Primavera Con sus Divinos colores Tu eres la Mar Yo soy el arena Yo soy contigo Donde quiera. You just can't say that in English. cheers, Ron

Right, Ron. And for me one of the best things about the Spanish language is the word 'madrugada'. The existence of this word may be proof of an inherently poetic soul, or it might just be a pragmatic response to a lifestyle. I incline towards the former. [:)]

There used to be this programme from Radio Nacional de España when I was young which was broadcast about 1.00am called "Flamenco en la Madrugada " from Sevilla, which was really crackly and everything since it was coming from over a thousand miles away. Terremoto and Manuel Morao, Fosforito, Chocolate etc I used to love snuggling up in my bed and listening to it on headphones while the rain beat down on the window. I guess that's where my taste in Flamenco comes from. Matic, It's from a very early album (I think the second) from Camaron and Paco. It's got the rather naff title "Al Padre Santo de Roma", (which would not raise too much cheer from Ian Paisley or the Orangemen of Glasgow.[:D][:D]) It's a great Tangos, full of energy and great lyrics. Also the two guitars harmonise with Paco doing Bflat-A and his brother Ramon doing C7-B7. Sounds great! cheers, Ron

I havent heard the piece you guys are talking about, but its most likely "la arena". And the "soy contigo" is probably voy contigo or estoy contigo. Im guessing voy since it sounds like what you heard. And there would be an "s" at the end of quieras, but like somebody mentioned, they get pretty aspirated down here in the south. ;) Beautiful lyrics for sure. hasta luego, Joe

Ay...mi Español no es bueno hombre..[:D] But sometimes I can get the general gist of it. Pepe de Lucia does another great Tangos with great words from the album "El Mundo Flamenco de Paco de Lucia". Can't remember them correctly right now. I'll have to dig it out again.. You must admit though...a lot of people say Camaron is overrated...but to me he has that certain"something" that put him head and shoulders over his contemporaries IMO. It's hard to pin down in words what that magic was. FernandoTerremoto was another. What is talent? Why do certain people just hear and feel it right and extend the medium when others are just very competent? That's the mystery and beauty of Art IMO. cheers, Ron

What is talent? Why do certain people just hear it right and extend the medium when others are just very competent? Why do semi-talented people make it with all the hidden treasures whom very few people know about? You've got to stop believing in recordings, and then ask those questions.....with all respect.....

Paco Pena and Rafael don't play really well when they are just in a room with you...make plenty of mistakes and generally fumble around. How do they do it? Dave (Pacopicado) met a famous guitarist in Cordoba and he couldn't even remember his compositions. John Williams used to meet up with his friends in a pub in London on a Saturday morning. One of them said "He screws all the time like most of us....but he never does it on stage". Why is that? cheers, Ron

Heres another one vente conmigo a las retamas del camino, tienes unos dientes como granitos de arroz con leche come with me to the broom by the wayside, you have teeth like grains of rice in milk alegrias. rice pudding, now tell that to your wife, actually its rather beautiful. very erotic and spontaneous wayside sex or is he talking about his burro!!

You are right, Ron, why is that? That, would be telling, and it is none of my buisness........ I had a girl friend who used to make her own cd covers, and slip them into the gem cases. She figured, it's just music, and she didn't believe all the hype. She added all of the pertinent information of course, the name of the song, the time, and added her own liner notes, but nothing about the artists, or the name of the band. And of course she added the name of the cd, but the origional cd covers she threw away. She figured the origional cd cover was hype and it was bogus, and not really nessesary for her. She made her own artwork that gave her a good feeling about the cd. That is critical thinking!
