koella -> my own website. Help please. (Jun. 27 2007 19:52:11)

Hi
I decided to get a website.
I think I found somebody to do the technical job.
But I'm a nitwit concerning this website-building.[&:]
I even don't now where you draw the line between the technical stuff and the designing of the actual visible page.[&:]

Could any of you wizzkids give me some tips and things that I should keep in mind ?[:)]

Simple really, interface designers are not technical and engineers cannot design interfaces.

Think of user interface, business rules and data as 3 separate layers requiring different skills. An architect (as I was) will look across all of them on behalf on the non-technical client.

I agree with Romerito on the templates but then you are limited by what they look like and what they do.

Thanks.
I only had some short contact with someone ( too busy, busy ).
I had not much time to ask questions. But he sent me a "first step" design.
As far as I know there are no limits. He even mailed me some links to hosters he liked.
So it's not a template I think.

But do you have tips on practical things, like option buttons, amount of harddisk space, data traffic etc.

Koella, I miss a good website as a resource for people in Holland. For example were to find a good flamenco teacher or artist performances.
Will there be this kind of information and is your website accessible for everyone?
(I hope this isn't a stupid question...)

Hi Blanca.
I think you misunderstood me.
I was talking about a personal website. But now that you mention those things, it seems like a good idea.[:)]
Information about dutch flamenco is hard to find. So there would be a lot of visitors.

But there will never, NEVER be a forum on it. [:D]I wouldn't know how to deal with all those trolls like the ones there on gitaarnet.nl. You know the ones that play metal all day and only visit the off-topic section to talk dirty and boast about their hash collection. [8|]

You are right, I misunderstood you at first (wishfull-thinking), but later I realised that it would be a personal website, so I edited my post.
I'm glad you like the idea, I also think there will be quite some visitors.
I really understand why you won't start a forum, besides the 'trolls' you mentioned I remember some bad things that happened with other Dutch flamenco foros... [:(]

Good luck with the website, I am really looking forward to it!

Hey, I didn't know about that. Tell me some juicy details. Please !![:)]

And thanks !

Well, there are no juicy details, because I don't know why it happened and how it was possible. If I recall it right, the foro's suffered from a lot of spam and it scared people away. One of them recovered from that and came back improved, but later on the site was hacked and that was it, it never came back.... It really is a shame and a loss for all sincere people who love flamenco [:@]

Yes, I was a few times on that forum. It felt like walking around in a ghost town. I think you got to have some kind of supervisor who checks every now and then whether everything is running as it should be.

Anyway guys, except for Romerito and Escribano, you've all been a big help.[:(]
Tell me if I can do anything in return.[>:]
