I don't like when people clap 3,6,8,10 for the accents of bulerias. I tell them to please stop when I hear that. If I have to show people palmas, then I show them two basic patterns. First one, if counting 12, is just 1 2,4 5,7 8,10 11. But a lot of people can't keep the spaces even and start to speed up or slow down. The second is 1,2,3,4,5....7,8,9,10,11.....that is it. But I don't explain 12 count or accents, just tell them to clap 5 times, then leave a space. Most people can do that, but they don't have the accent. The accent needs to be on 1,3, 7, 9 for it to sound right. Only if I get people to do that do I show any counter rhythm. Honestly, it is rare to find people who don't speed up and slow down just a steady beat, much less accent anything. OK, assuming you actually DO find people that can clap the above with the right accent, then the second person part would be to clap 12, the "&" in between 1 and 2, then 3,4,5,6 the "&" between 7 and 8, 9 10 11, repeat. The accent here is that countra beat "&" both times, and the 3 and 9. Together that is the sound I want the palmas to make. Here is the sound the two parts create: http://www.foroflamenco.com/Palmas/m_68116/p_1/tmode_1/smode_1/tm.htm EDIT. Link changed: http://www.foroflamenco.com/tm.asp?m=68116&p=2&tmode=1&smode=1
