Adam -> RE: Decent flamenco on the Costa Del Sol? (Jun. 21 2007 17:37:19)

Oh, Nerja is lovely. I was just there Sunday with some friends, what a nice beach. So I saw signs around town for flamenco, it shouldn't be too hard to find, but of course the quality may or may not be worth it (I was only there for the day so I never saw any). If you can take a trip up to Granada, even if for just a night, that would really be worth it - Granada is only an hour and a half or two hours by bus (I forget how long the trip was exactly - I was sleeping the whole time [:D]), fare is cheap, and Granada's a great city. At night, I'd say avoid the touristy zambras up on the Sacromonte--lots of money and you may or may not get a decent show, although if that judgement is wrong then someone who's actually spent more than three weeks in Granada can correct me, haha. The Upsetter club has flamenco every night, I think, around 10 or 10:30, usually good stuff (Emilio Maya plays there every now and then, and el Niño de las Almendras sings every Monday night), and if you're there on a Sunday night then you can stop by the Eshavira club around 11, there's usually good flamenco there. Granaínos will, of course, be a bit more helpful than I, but that's what I've got. Nice little part of the world here, have a great time!
