What is the best guitar to buy in the 1000-1200 dollar price range.

The entry level Burguet didn't look too good, but the AC-2F .. I guess if I save a little longer.

well, you can't afford the Ramirez, so cross that one off the list. Cordoba, Alhambra, Pavan, Lucida, etc are not so good... although their top-of-the-range models might be ok. The Yamaha (I have one) is good, BUT I'd say there's better out there for $1,200.

Your best bet is probably a Sanchis, although I've heard varying critiques of them.

If you can, save up an extra $800 and get one of Anders' guitars.

Jeff....Ricardo Sanchis Carpio is the Father of these 2 brothers (Hermanos Sanchis Lopez).

I dont think that the first link which you posted here (cheap one), is for a Guitar of Ricardo Sanchis Carpio. Maybe this Ricardo Sanchis is someone else!

The Guitars from Ricardo Sanchis are more expensive and i think he only builds one or two professional Models which are about 4000 Euros (am not sure).

The cheapest Models from Hnos. Sanchis Lopez are 2F and F03 which are about
1200 to 1400 Euros.
2F is a blanca and F03 is a Negra.

Jeff, another suggestion would be followings (if you dont have any flamenco Guitar)

Buy a cheap Yamaha CG171SF which is about 300$ to 350$.
It is ok for the price and i heard from many people that it is a good guitar for this very low price. So you can start and play with this guitar and meanwhile
save money to buy an Anders.
Maybe you should not go for a mid range price Guitar.

i would have to aggree, its been my experience that in the mid range, quality varies so much. it is possible to find a real gem in the 'cheapie' factory guitars that will perform as good and better than a lot of mid range stuff.

I just don't think I would buy a cheap guitar. I went down that road, and now find myself trying to sell the cheap ones to buy the one I really wanted in the first place. The Yamaha is ok, but not as inspiring as I would imagine having one built by Anders would be. But, then again, it depends on Jeff's level of commitment. He may just be testing the water so to speak with flamenco, and so investing 1200 may be less of a risk if he decides flamenco is not for him. However, even if that is the case, I would imagine it would be easier to sell a handmade guitar in the price range Anders charges than it would be to sell a mid range factory built guitar - that is if you want your return to match your investment. Just my .02 Jeff, do what you want, I just think for the price and workmanship and beauty, you can't go wrong with Anders.

How you doing?
I have been playing guitar for about 12 years but only played flamenco for about 5. I originally bought a lame £60 classical, and quickly moved on to an Alhambra intermediate model. I now feel like It may be time to upgrade again and all this talk of which guitar to buy has got my cheque book twitching!!

Considering how long/short I've been playing which one of your guitars on your site do you think would be most suitable and would I be foolish to buy without trying? (I hope to be in andalucia later in the summer)

I have been playing flamenco for about 5 or 6 years. so I am definitely past the fad stage. I mean, I still suck and all - can't keep compas to save my life... LOL

Anyway, I agree with you the mid-ranges have me trembling from fear of blowing a grand and getting a lemon.

Although I am tempted to try out the cheap yamaha, the several pieces of crap guitars I have now will suffice for practicing.

If I may summerize - the concensus here is that, pound-for-pound the best guitar to get is the Anders...

I was checking lafalseta and found some that I could (as painful as it would be) put on my credit card and pay myself back.

Each had some lower priced guitars - any comments on these?

Pedro Miguel - 8F, 27F Cypres
Valeriano Bernal - Gitano, Sueno, Prodigio (I liked the Buleria too)
Hermanos Sanchis - Solea, F-03, 2F-05
Francisco Navaro - Grand Concert Flamenco, concert flamenco, student flamenco

I will call tom as recommended.

Is the Anders guitar better than these?

Oh and I found Burguets AC-2F's for 1621.75!! .. is that good or what.

So here is the my short list - somebody help me make up my mind.

Which guitar will suit you depends on what you like. If you are interested in one of my guitars you should send me a mail and we´ll discuss things and I´ll try to guide you the best I can. In general, what most people like is a good responsive Blanca with a pulsation which is not to strong. With respect of trying before buying, its never a bad idea to visit makers. I dont stock guitars, but I always offer a test drive on one of my own guitars.

Jeff. You ask how my guitars compare to some other makes. The biggest different is that the ones you talk about are factory guitars. My guitars are 100% handmade guitars made only by me. They are a lot more personal than what you´ll get from even the smallest factory.

...how many times do i have to say this? - quit looking for other models. you´ll never find the quality at such a low price as Anders offers.
Stopp searching for "names" Anders isnt known......yet. but he should be and i think he should change that 2 in 2600 to a 3. The quality is well worth it.

Jeff, the best would be to go and try out all the guitars. Dont look at the price or the brand.
Sometimes you find a Guitar in which you fall in love (sound, playability, etc.) and the guitar isnt even very pricy. Then just buy it

But if you can not go somewhere to try out guitars, then maybe factory guitars are not recommanded. No matter which brand or price.
Then you should order to a good guitar builder like Anders who is the only one who is involved in the building of your guitar and tell him exactly what you want.

But there are rumours of a student model, the Prippsophonic (guitarra prippsofónica) which will be entirely made by many hands in a carefully selected factory in Spaindinavia according to plans drawn up by Per and Anders during a night of beer and mashed potatoes. I second this. I play the maple model, 1f ARCE. Maybe I got a good one, but it is really good for the money. The other models I have tried are 1f blanca, the negra, the "bulerias" model pau ferro, and the low end blanca 2f. I can recommend them all, at least the ones I have tried. I have two students with 2F model, bought from different shops, and they are both really good. THe negra model was a bit bass heavy for my taste, but the Pau Ferro model (bolivian rosewood) was really nice and balanced.

Got a Hermanos Sanchis 2F - had it for 2 years - love it. Also....... bought a Casa Montalvo select from America (on ebay)- They start at around $1200 I think - but maybe get a secondhand one -I paid $1200 for select model - the select or masters are $2000 new. Can't do a straight comparison as the Montalvo's a Negra - my teacher - Philip John Lee likes them both but did purr when he played the montalvo.
