Hi, Its Billy Boy, or Dave, from a few years ago. Iam intrigued by the name Esteban. I have been living for the past 2 years in a town in Spain called Almunecar, some will be familiar with this town. I often warmed up on a Saturday night, if I was not too pissed for Ricardo de la Luna, an amazing Gypsy Guitarist who accompanies himself with the Cante, amazing solo guitarist also, but anyway occasionally a guitarist called Estaban would arrive, and play some amazing pyroteknique pieces, although the Bulerias did not resemble anything that u could call in “Compas”. He played everything in altered tunings, which seemed to be a good excuse for not to accompany visiting singers. I have to say he is a polished concert guitarist, if we are talking about the same guy?, said he was from Granada, he said to me solo flamenco guitar is dead, u can only create new interesting music by stretching the rhythmic rules and using altered tunings,of which he might have a point. But; and I don’t like to flame people especially with the rules of the board. Anyway he is a complete nutcase, he said he was a born again Christian, that he had sold over half a million CDs, slated virtually every other Guitarist off I can think of, even said, “All of Tomatitos family are born again Christians, except Tomatito himself, he is still holding back because he likes smoking the Ganza”. During his time in Ricardos Taberna, no one spoke to him, he seemed in a world of his own, good guitarist, but what a ****. When some other guitarist would get up on stage, and play he would quite often go to the bar or to the toilet and ignore him. Anyway if it’s the same geezer that was mentioned d in the Jaun Martin link, there ya go. Badda Bing, badda bum.
Cheers
Paco Picado
P.S Is he famous if its the same guy?

Hey Billy Boy, glad to see you're still down here. I get to La Herradura quite a lot if you fancy a beer.

Catch Ricardo De La Luna's videos that I posted today in the Upload section. He is merely toying with that guitar!

Hey Dave, man!!!
Long time no speak!
Last time I heard from you, you were in Germany.
Are you still into Rafael Riqueni?
That was a great Bulerias you uploaded back then...and a great Tientos if I remember right...
I thought that you'd maybe given up playing...

So you've been hiding away in Andalucia all this time you dog you!

Speaking of dogs...
How's t' whippet adapting to Spanish climate? [:D]

Cheers & Beers!

Ron

Hi nice to be back
First off, I think It is a different Esteban. Thanks for the offer of a beer ,Escribano but I have now returned to Blighty, as casual work dried up, and found myself drinking too much, and hanging out with the ex pats, which I vowed i would never do. That was the original reason for me to go to Almunecar, because it is mainly Spanish resort, and was informed it was a small fishing village, but its much bigger. Its a beautiful spot though, but not much happening on the flamenco front, although in the summer they had a Flamenco festival in the park. There weren’t any dance classes that I could accompany. Ricardos skin and blister teaches dance but they practice to a CDs, a lot of dance classes seem to. It seems ironic , I was learning more Flamenco in Germany, as I regularly accompanied dance classes, who were very glad to have a live guitarist present, and my compas became rock solid in Alemania.
I used to walk over the cliffs to La Herradura, but now its impassable due to the excessive building, which has been in the press recently due to corruption/ over production etc, which is causing a drop in sales as the they have over built.
Ricardos son is also a fine flautists, they are good travelling show, and have done a show in London, but seem to argue a lot and can never get organised. I think Mike Jingle took them to London last year, Ricardo saying when he got back he hated it, meaning London probably, Mike was living in Almunecar, any one know of his whereabouts now? I’ll check out the Ricardo vid if my old computer will play it, I’m still on dial up. Cheers

Ron good to hear from you. Wippets survive quite well in the heat because of their short coats. And as for flat caps. I saw more Spanish wearing flat caps than I have ever seen in Blackburn, especially the Gitanos who are particularly fond of white flat caps Canteors especially.
I have just learnt Riquenis ‘Tacita de Plata’ alegrias from his his “Alcazar de Cristal” album beautiful piece in A, reminiscent of Sabicas.
Cheers Ron
