TANúñez -> Conde Style Guitar - Update (May 24 2007 16:55:34)

Well, it's finally finished. I really enjoyed building this guitar. I have to visit my buddy to compare both this guitar and the original Conde side by side to get a more accurate assessment of the sound but from what I remember, I came pretty close. The original Conde was a bit stiffer playability wise. Probably due to the 664 scale. Mine is 650mm / 53mm nut.

This one is a Spruce top, Med. Cypress back and sides. Ebony fingerboard with Mahogany neck. Wasn't intending to use mahogany. I simply pulled out a mahogany neck blank instead of cedar and didn't even notice until I started cutting the neck slots. Oh well, it's a tad bit heavier but this was an "experiment guitar".

Nitro Lacquer finish and some $50 or so Gotoh machine tuners. The head is my own design, or at least I think so. Nothing flashy. I wanted something a little more traditional. Since the completion of this guitar I have drawn up something similar with a little more to it which will be on my next guitar.

The sound. The trebs are sweet and somewhat dry with deep strong basses. It's a punchy guitar. Not the loudest but plenty of volume. I expect certain characteristics to develop once it's had more time to open up. It's only been strung up for 2 days. I'm hoping to buy a new camera that has video recording capabilities. When I do, I'll post a little recording.

I'll post some photos in the next few posts.

Gracias amigo. Balance is very important, IMO. I'm sure you know how hard it is to come up with a head design. Or should I say, original head design. Just about everything under the sun has been done before.

Hi Tom, Congrats!
Nice looking instrument, I mentioned the super looking back grain before on an earlier post. Nice big rosette design.
Looking forward to hearing her sing.
What's with 'Andrew' Scots or Russian?

Thanks Jim. I don't know the true origin of the name Andrew. My Mother gave me the name to honor an uncle of hers.

Hola Tom,

2 beautiful (and pungent) sets of cypress backs and sides have just arrived. Slowly gathering materials at the moment, but I'm not rushing, as my plate is quite full with work - unfortunately....And I've been playing for every class and dancer's performance I can be a part of, too.

Going to be 2 more blancas, unless I find a nice piece of Brazilian or something that intrigues me towards The Dark Side..

Seeing your new baby fires me up a bit, I must admit..

R

Are you going to follow in the Reyes direction again or try something else? Are you playing your first guitar as your main guitar? If you are then it must have turned out nice. I remember my first guitar was ok but I wasn't happy enough with it to play it all the time [:(]

Beautiful!

TANúñez -> RE: Conde Style Guitar - Update (May 29 2007 14:55:40)

Thanks Per. By the way, you have a great website.

Ramón -> RE: Conde Style Guitar - Update (May 29 2007 16:32:44)

Hola Tom,

Going to stick with what I did. And yes, it's my main guitar. I have a '77 Esteso, but I like mine a lot better. And far louder as an accompaniment guitar, which is what I'm doing all the time now.

Just hoping that the little mistakes are learned from....[8|]

That's the best way to go. You learn a lot about a plan by doing it over and over again.

Escribano -> RE: Conde Style Guitar - Update (May 29 2007 19:28:04)

Cool! Very well done Tom, it is not easy (I know, mine cracked). Look forward to hearing it.

andresito -> RE: Conde Style Guitar - Update (May 30 2007 4:33:22)

Muy buen trabajo, Tomaso Andres!

From what I know, Andrew is actually a greek name (meaning 'manly' or 'a man').
St. Andrew must have been a tough hombre since he asked to be martyred on an x-shaped cross (seen Ron's avatar?) since he felt unworthy of going on the same kind as JC. Apparently he was also a very good golfer [:)]

Thanks Simon. I totally forgot you had built a guitar. I remember seeing the website. I can't remember the name but I think it had your dog's name River in the URL didn't it? So did you complete it? did you post photos?

andresito,

That's an interesting story. I'm going to have to research it. Now instead of saying I was partially named after an uncle, I'd rather say I was given this name as my moma knew I would grow up to be very manly. Sounds better[:)]

On the flip side, it doesn't look too manly when I have long fingernails on one hand.[&:]

Buff them to a dull shine. I got tired of explaining that I wasn't gay.

(I thought a pink emo' would be appropriate here)
