Even though my Spanish is quite poor I couldn't resist buying the big book "Guitarreros de Andalucía" by Luis F. Leal Pinar. With more than 400 pages it lists hundreds of luthiers who are or have been active in Andalucia building guitars. One part of the book presents 20 luthiers more in depth while another part lists luthiers in alphabetical order like a dictionary. Some of those names in the "in depth section" are familiar to me and good choices, but some other I have never heard of, while some names that only appears quite brief in the alphabetical list I would have expected to be presented more in depth. I know that my perspective from my remote part of the world is kind of biased towards the guitars that reaches the Swedish market but not necessarily really representative for how the true situation is in Spain. Francisco Montero, Juan Montero, Graciliano Pérez Carrizosa, Maximiano Fontiveros are names I have never heard of. Has anyone at the Foro tried their guitars?

Hi Per

I own that book as well. I purchesed that book because i thought i might get some information on their construction methods but that was not the case. The book is more like a dictionary as you said. It contains a lot of informations about the builders but none about the guitars. The only good thing is the pictures of the guitars of many famous and less famous andalucian makers.
For me the book looks more like a book that has been created in order to make promotion for the andalucian guitar and it's makers.

Does the book contain the addresses of the guitarreros?

Their adresses are often mentioned in the text so you should be able to find most of the now active builders using the book as a reference.

Hi Per,

I recently had Errol(flamencoguru) bring this book back for me from his last trip to Spain. An amazing book. Wonderful photos. It's heavy with a ton of great photos.

I have played a Juan Montero. Very nice guitar and somewhat similar to a Reyes. Maybe it's a Cordoba thing. Another good guitar is from Francisco Manuel Diaz. Also in the book.

There are some updated adresses of builders, but there are also a lot of builders not building anymore. Some are mentioned that have build very few or maybe even no guitars and a lot of builders are not mentioned.

The book is great. A lot of great photos. The text is so-so IMHO, so I´d say that its mostly a book for watching and not so much for reading.

I haven't read the book but I have a feeling that, in general, there is some prejudice about foreign guitarreros building in Spain. I heard one famous guitarrero mentioned "madness", referring to famous guitarists playing "foreign" instruments. Am I correct?
