TANúñez -> You know what we need? (May 15 2007 19:05:29)

At some point in the future, we need to have the 1st annual foroflamenco get together with periodic reunions.

Since all of us are from various countries, we could decide on a central county and meet up for a few days/nights of juergas, sight seeing, drinking, swapping guitars, exchanging falsetas and having a good time. More importantly, meeting all the friends we've made here in person.

How about the UK? Or, we could go to Spain. We could all crash at Simon's place. We could all pile in his convertable Mustang chanting jaleos while he races us down the streets [:D] What a movie that would make eh Simon [8D]

It would be expensive that's why much planning and saving is needed but it would be money well spent.

Egypt is a place I've always wanted to visit and plan to at some point in my life. I'll go any place if we could actually pull this off.

duende -> RE: You know what we need? (May 15 2007 21:04:48)

actually going to Madrid would be OK but Andalucia cost a bundle.

JasonM -> RE: You know what we need? (May 15 2007 22:01:59)

Damn, Tom. You look awfuly strung out in that pic.

Mongolia strikes me as a location. Or better yet, Gerardo's workshop would be a great place. Don't actually have to attend the workshop. (I would be to drunk to attend anyway). Although I hear it is hard to book a place to stay that time of year.

Not to rain on the parade, because I would meet anywhere but...why not SPAIN.

We all share a love for flamenco. No better place to drink and have a Juerga than Spain. Maybe we could all take class with different guitarists etc. and then jam the rest of the day trading info. That would be awesome.

And Jamon Serrano...[:D]yummy. Why not get drunk on Sherry in Jerez and see if we can spot the Morao family...ambush em for a lesson.[:D]

Egypt would be great though.

Flamenco? Spain? You jokester [:D] I'm up for it!!

Jim Opfer -> RE: You know what we need? (May 15 2007 23:11:19)

I'd be up for that. Anywhere except somewhere cold.[&:]

guitarbuddha -> RE: You know what we need? (May 15 2007 23:16:09)

Spain !!

Is andalucia expensive? I hadn't heard. I was planning to cycle from Madrid to summer later in the year.

JBASHORUN -> RE: You know what we need? (May 16 2007 0:21:12)

I think Timbuktu would be the ideal location... its easy to get to, and there's bound to be a thriving Flamenco community already there...

When I went to my first workshop I was nervous about peoples attitudes and what they would think of me and I soon found that people where very kind in helping each other get the material down. I would love to be a part of something like that especially if Todd would come cause then I could finally buy him a beer. Yeh we could all do our classes for the day and then meet up and hang out and jam and share falsetas. A great Idea man.

I think it should be in Spain, and we should give a time frame for all of us to save the money. I know I'm about 4 months out how about anyone else.[:D][:D][:D]

This post makes me realize how in reality I would love to meet all of you especially Todd Duende and Ricardo no offense to anyone of course but those three have really inspired me to try this hard complex thing called Flamenco.

So in honesty it makes me wonder why I'm so defensive and just don't listen, I wish Todd would have commented on some of my own stuff and my decent in compas posts but he is someone i look up too and maybe thats why I'm so defensive.

When in reality I think Todd is one of the most precise and amazing players I have ever seen. Maybe i should listen to his harsh words and quit screwing around and just do what I need instead of wasting my time trying stuff that is holding me back from nailing it later ..... wow that was a long sentence. Well I would really love to do this.

Gabriel ......[:)][:)]

Not kissing ass by any means but this **** is amazing. I love you Todd.

edgar884 -> RE: You know what we need? (May 16 2007 3:32:48)

Well of course I do but not in a gay way. I would love to write something with him that had no rules. But I would also love to buy him a beer give him ---- oops and make him show me stuff till late late late in the evening but no gay stuff. hahahahahahaaa

I'll even change his strings for him and tune it up, I can put on a new set and have it stay in tune in an hour. Savarez of course nothing less for Todd.[:)]

edgar884 -> RE: You know what we need? (May 16 2007 3:52:07)

The guitar makes cry to the dreams. The sob of the lost souls, escapes by its round mouth. “

That is beautiful.[:D]

hassurbanipal -> RE: You know what we need? (May 16 2007 8:16:39)

hey guys,

andalucia doesn't have to be that expensive.
We can just rent a big house where we can all stay. that doesn't have to cost that much because you can split it ofcourse.
the only problem is that when you come from america the ticket price for the airplane can be quite high in comparison to mine.

but it's a good idea. I'm in!!!
maybe we can all go to anders house? and sleep in his caravan?

duende -> RE: You know what we need? (May 16 2007 9:12:22)

when would an event like this take place? everyone would have to save some serious cash

why dont we all go to adelaide?[8D]

Ramirez -> RE: You know what we need? (May 16 2007 9:54:09)

Hey Tom,

That really is a beautiful idea!

And, if I hadn't of just given you all my money, I'd love to tag along!

Why not come to York in the UK. Except for the climate, food, people, general ambiance, attitude, the culture and the music - its muy flamenco.
[8|]

PS - How cool would it be to watch Gabe and Todd beat each other to death with their guitars! We could sell tickets and everything[:D]

hassurbanipal -> RE: You know what we need? (May 16 2007 12:10:09)

well , I would say you can only do it like may or june next year or even july and all go together to gerardo's workshop......:))

I think this needs a lot of organisation and a whole lot of people have to be free in that period of time......

Ailsa -> RE: You know what we need? (May 16 2007 14:56:04)

There's so much good feeling about this in all the posts, it's got to happen![:)] Renting a big house would keep the costs down. And it would need some long term planning so that everyone who wants to come would be free.

What about doing it at a time when there's some big event on already - or would that just make it too busy and crowded? Maybe everyone turning up would be an event in its own right !! [:D][:D][:D]

Francisco -> RE: You know what we need? (May 16 2007 15:05:43)

I think it's a fantastic idea, Tom. My vote is for Amsterdam tho [;)]

Escribano -> RE: You know what we need? (May 16 2007 15:40:36)

Nice idea. I've been thinking about it for some time now Tom, I just didn't think anyone would make the trip. In my opinion it can only be Andalucía, which is not that expensive once you get here.

Accomodation around my way (30Km from Granada) is pretty straightforward if you want somewhere really nice in the Fall or the Spring like this:

http://www.viasur-andalucia.com/en/ca116.htm

133 Euros each a week based on sharing a room and we get at least 13 people.

I could put up another 5 people at my house which is nearby. I have another house on the coast at La Herradura and Stephen Hill runs guitar making courses down there, so we could put that on the agenda?

Nearer to the International flamenco festival in Jerez (late Feb.), we could hire a mini-van and drop in there for a couple of days to catch a few performances.

Flights to Granada from London can be very cheap (as little as £30) so that would be the obvious connection for most people.

We might also be able arrange group lessons with Emilio Maya in Granada.

Who wants to help me put something together?

Guest -> RE: You know what we need? (May 16 2007 20:03:10)

ESCRIBIANO you defanatly win ..... ohhh you made me dream while am siting on my place.[8|]
