I just watched "Paco de Lucia: Light and Shade" over the weekend. I thought it was very well done and, suprisingly, my girlfriend actually enjoyed watching it also.

Any recommendations for similar DVD documentaries?

Agujetas, Cantaor.

Your girlfriend may not like it.
I think it's fantastic.

About Paco?
There is another good Paco de Lucia documentary

Francisco Sanchez - Paco de Lucia DVD
The 2 DVDs include concerts ( 1. Concierto de Aranjuez and 2. Solo, duo, trio) and a 93.Min Documentary about paco.

Not necessarily about Paco, but that would be cool too.

Flamenco in general, other specific performers, etc. They just need to be compelling and general interest enough that I can watch them with my girlfriend.

I have a VHS video called Sevillanas by Carlos Saura which is excellent. There is a duet of Sanlucar and PDL towards the beginning. I haven't been able to find it in DVD. You can find it in YouTube.

"The Flamenco Clan (Herencia Flamenca)" is a good one, by the same director as "Paco de Lucia: Light and Shade". Your girlfriend will enjoy it too.

Dunno if these can be considered "documentaries" I think they are rather performances : Misa Flamenca from Paco Peña ....a knockout. Also there's a rare and old Sabicas performance from the 60's entitled Sabicas. Then there's "Meeting of the Spirits," although not a flamenco documentary it shows Paco's virtuosity/ style in the late 70's (worth watching if you care for Paco!) .

Thanks for the recs so far. The Flamenco Clan looks like a good one. Unfortunately, Amazon.com only has it in Region 2 DVD (which won't play on US DVD players).

I searched Google but didn't have any luck finding it for sale in the US.

Is available anywhere?

Try www.shop.com for the Flamenco Clan one...
Suerte!

That's weird - Amazon.ca has it in NTSC (that's where I got it):
