Escribano -> Flamenco MP3 library? (Jan. 26 2004 22:10:00)

I was thinking today about whether we could participate in putting together the largest, free flamenco music library on the Internet. We rip about 30 secs of each track from our CD collections (avoiding repeat efforts, of course) and post them on a well-structured web page - I'll build it.

We could cross-reference relevant links alongside the track or artist to point to resources such as tabs, history, further information etc. A "buy-it" link to deFlamenco.com, for example.

I believe copyright will allow a low quality MP3 of such duration but I will want to check.

Any of you guys interested?

A nice idea.

I can contribute some things not available anymore, I have some recordings that would be quite hard to find in mp3 even.

How would you get permission? Who could give that kind of permission for so large a selection of music?

Anthony

I believe (and it is only a belief) that short extracts can be used for educational/research purposes without breach of copyright, but it is very complex on the Internet as often no distinction is made between where it is hosted and where it is downloaded.

I would like to gauge interest before researching further.
