Could someone please explain why people think he's taking the ****? It all seems fairly reasonable to me.

Maybe because we have gone out of our way to show Rudy some of the "best" flamenco available and very little of it seems to appeal to him, which might indicate that Flamenco is perhaps not what he is looking for.

But I see what you mean, Stu... when I first heard many paco De Lucia songs, I didn't like them because they were too complex. And I could only get into Rumbas like Rio Ancho and other Nuevo Flamenco type stuff.

I probably made some similarly inappropriate posts when I was a new member as a result of this. I guess its easy to forget how far I have come.

Lets hope we have given Rudy enough information to discover for himself whether he likes Flamenco.

Stu -> RE: New to Flamenco...help please! (Apr. 29 2007 14:01:26)

Rudy,
It just seemed a bit strange to me that after not really liking some of the clips posted, you, as a "poor student" bought 16 CDs of stuff based only on the names some members suggested.
In one post you were "narrowing down your list" and in the next post, (10 hours later) you had 'em!!
Then, on listening to the first one, Fantasia Flamenca by Paco de Lucia, said that it didn't do much for you.

It all just seemed a bit bogus to me...[:-]

My apologies if I got you wrong.

cheers,

Ron

WOW, you must have the fastest computer on earth.

What make and model please?

It takes me about 5-10 minutes to download an album from the Itunes website, so thats 5 x 100 = 500 minutes divided by 60 = 8.33 = 8 hours and 33 minutes. And my computer is not the fastest...

Adam -> RE: New to Flamenco...help please! (Apr. 29 2007 18:40:17)

Alright, I'll clear up the confusion here - such speeds are possible, the answer is known as OiNK. There, I said it [:D]

duende -> RE: New to Flamenco...help please! (Apr. 29 2007 18:49:26)

i thought the answer was 42[8|]?!???

Adam -> RE: New to Flamenco...help please! (Apr. 29 2007 19:44:53)

No, duende, that's the answer to life, the universe, and everything - not high download speeds! (well, the latter is included in the former). OiNK is a very, very fast music downloading service with lots of music. Unfortunately, takes a lot of luck to get invited (not that I would know, of course). The assumption I'm making is that Rudy used OiNK or a similar method to acquire so much new music in such little time.

Ron, Ramparts has the right idea here... this is where you are you haven't caught up with technology yet! [:D]

wow, it took me 1-2 years to get these albums, which he got in 10 hours. All flamenco i could download from filesharing in the last years are 6 Tomatito Camaron Mp3s.

So are sites like oiNK better than some of the other sites?

How does one get invited. Got a lot of stuff to share as well as stuff I am looking for. Lots o' bootlegs.

Does invite only mean they are less likely to be shut down?

Romerito, the technology involved is in itself legal to download/use/possess. But using it to download/upload/share copyrighted material is NOT strictly legal, and the facilities are available for detection of users who abuse this, so if you use it you will need to take precautions.

here's a summary:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BitTorrent

There are various programs available that enable you to downoad/upload, and various websites that host the files themselves.

The "invitation only" process basically covers their asses because this sort of thing is frowned upon by the authorities, and enables the hosters to limit access to their website. But sometimes you can find invitations "for sale" like here:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/THE-BEST-BITTORRENT-WEBSITE-AROUND-FREE-TV-MOVIES_W0QQitemZ120109778332QQihZ002QQcategoryZ47103QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem

I'm told that this one of the fastest ways to download large amounts of information, and for free. Although I can imagine some members will most likely object to this sort of thing...

Lionel, there are various file hosting websites that DON'T require membership. do a Google search and you will find some, or send me a PM and I'll tell you a few. But you will still need to download and install the software itself. And please do note the security risks associated with all of this...

JBASHORUN -> RE: New to Flamenco...help please! (Apr. 30 2007 18:14:20)

Besides which, I thought you worked for "The World's Biggest Oil Company" and "had no trouble saving up 100 grand in a short space of time"? [8|][;)]

Adam -> RE: New to Flamenco...help please! (May 1 2007 20:25:48)

haha, I didn't actually expect this to devolve into a file-sharing discussion...well, I definitely never do any such things so I can't really say much, but if I did know anything and felt comfortable discussing illegal downloading on the foro, I'd tell you that flamenco generally is difficult to find on the web, but OiNK is an amazing resource if you're lucky enough to find an invite (Googling OiNK and begging on threads/blogs/etc. offering invites is a good way), otherwise eMule and Soulseek are generally sufficient. ...not that I would know.

(For the record, I'm not cheap - I buy as much as I can afford, but that's not really very much at all [:D] I'm a poor student too!)
