hi guys,

i am realy intersted in building flamneco guitars,

i would like to know the basics,

how the flamenco guitar build, the process,the stpes?!?!!

There are 2 great books you should consider reading:

One is Roy Cortnall's "Making Master Guitars":

and the other is Will Cumpiano's book:

If you don't want to buy them, try renting them from a library.

Also do a Google search, and you will find LOTS of info.

Lastly, check out Ramon's series of posts in the Luthiery section entitled: "Building A Flamenco Guitar"... they would be a good place to start:

Hi,

I do have both books JB sugested and I think they are both well written and you can build good guitars folowing the plans provided. But they are not specific about flamenco guitars. I think there is still a lot of info missing on how to build a "real" flamenco.

The neck angle in the book from Courtnall is the same for all 8 guitar plans he provided. All bridge's have almost the same height and there is no plan for a peghead for instance.

But I think the book written by Courtnall is the better of the two because Cumpiano has his "own" methode of building a guitar. No domed top the way most luthers would do, no neck angle and a flat gluing surface of the fingerboard to name a few.

But the book by Cumpiano is very clear, he warns you for the mistakes before you make them, lots of drawings and pictures so if you never did anything that has to do with tools I'd say go for Cumpiano, if you play with some steel and some wood and end up with a working radio, go for Courtnall and figure out what makes a flamenco a flamenco.

french polish IS the method.

why the color of the balnca (cypress wood) is differnte?

Cypress wood is generally a beige/off-white colour in its raw state. there are some subtle variations in shade, but the major differences in tone are applied with the finish. Shellac (for french polishing) is available in various shades from virtually clear to quite dark. You can sometimes change the colour by adding pigments or stain. But the final colour is, within reason, a cosmetic decision.
